When Sun Ra released his debut Saturn release in 1957, he signaled the Arkestra's mission for the future. The cover declared the album a "21st Century Limited Edition." The compositions on Supersonic Jazz conveyed optimism and hope, bringing a message auguring the World of Tomorrow. Ra declared this the first dimension of a fresh art form, as he set about evolving a new American music - a composite of the past and future, the known coalescing with the unknown. The album, not very well received upon release, reveals a vibrant universe of sound, with highly developed arrangements and sophisticated musicianship, especially Ra's innovative keyboard work and John Gilmore's astonishing soloing. Official expanded 2xLP / 2xCD edition with fourteen tracks of alternate versions and studio takes, and the CD version contains an additional four CD only tracks. Liner notes by avid fan Ira Kaplan from Yo La Tengo, and additional essay from longtime Ra blogger Rodger Coleman (NUVOID Sun Ra Sundays). Vinyl includes a 12x12 insert reproduction of original jacket art.

Listen Ship is the latest masterpiece in the ever-expanding sound world of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Henry Threadgill, whom The New York Review of Books recently described as "one of American music's great Romantics and a lifelong seeker of the sublime." The new work is a suite for six acoustic guitars - including individual stylists such as Bill Frisell, Miles Okazaki and Brandon Ross - and two pianos that utilize Threadgill's unique intervallic syntax to illuminate his idiosyncratic vision. The eight string instruments revel in the music's painstaking detail with intricate gestures that miraculously entwine to form a grand statement. The meticulous orchestration highlights all of the usual characteristics of Threadgill's music: unusual forms, unexpected timbres, and slippery counterpoint and rhythms, all shaped by the composer's conducting into a singular experience.

Released in 1999 by the noted audiophile label Chesky Records, The Feeling's Back showed that flugelhorn maestro Chuck Mangione - renowned for his trademark fedora hat and warm melodic lyricism - was still a force to be reckoned with in the jazz world. The son of an Italian American greengrocer, Rochester-born Mangione played hardbop in a group with his piano-playing brother before going solo in the mid-1960s. In 1978, he joined a small list of chart-busting elite jazz instrumentalists when his track 'Feels So Good' rose to No. 1 on the US Adult Contemporary chart. Considered a founding father of smooth jazz, Mangione began his own record label in the late '80s before landing at Chesky in 1999 for The Feeling's Back, the first of two albums for the company. Framing his mellow flugelhorn sound with lush, intimate arrangements and female vocals, TheFeeling's Back showed that the flugelhornist hadn't lost his mojo. At 58, he could still play with the sensitive touch and quiet fire that had defined his earlier, commercially successful work. The album is reissued on SACD Hybrid Stereo in 2025

Wolfgang Muthspiel/Scott Colley/Brian Blade - "Tokyo". Wolfgang Muthspiel and his trio with Scott Colley on bass and Brian Blade on drums goes into it's third recording venture swinging, setting the stage for what may be the group's most adventurous trio recording. As has become custom, Wolfgang alternates between acoustic and electric guitars fluently and in equal measures, framing his soft touch and fluid lines in a program that seems to encompass the entirety of the broad idiomatic scope he has unraveled over the past decade

The Charlie Rouse Band - "Cinnamon Flower: The Expanded Edition". Cinnamon Flower: The Expanded Edition is a reissue of the legendary saxophonist Charlie Rouse's Brazilianinspired 1977 album, originally released on Douglas Records. Nearly 50 years later, Resonance is proud to present this deluxe, definitive edition of Cinnamon Flower, which contains nearly 30 minutes of previously unissued versions of songs from the original release captured by Resonance founder and engineer, George Klabin. Charles Lloyd - "Figure In Blue". Legendary saxophonist Charles Lloyd convened a new trio of musical explorers with Jason Moran on piano and Marvin Sewell on guitar for his 87th birthday concert at the Lobero Theater in Santa Barbara and immediately brought them into the studio to record his remarkable twelfth Blue Note album, Figure In Blue. The spacious double album travels wide expanses of musical terrain from beautiful ballads to raw Delta blues and includes stunning homages to both Duke Ellington and Zakir Hussain.

Recorded in 1991 for the noted audiophile label Chesky Records, New York Reunion is a thrilling meeting of jazz giants. McCoy Tyner, who rose to fame with the John Coltrane Quartet, is joined by nonpareil tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, the record-breaking double-bass maestro Ron Carter, and jazz drummer extraordinaire, Al Foster. The quartet reveals it's extraordinary synergy through a remarkable blend of jazz standards and original compositions. Among the album's many highlights is Henderson's bossa nova-infused classic 'Recorda Me' and Tyner's beautiful jazz waltz, 'Miss Bea,' a homage to his mother. The group also breathes new life into Cole Porter's timeless 'What Is This Thing Called Love.' The album's piece de resistance is an extraordinary revamp of Thelonious Monk's 'Ask Me Now,' which highlights Henderson's remarkable saxophone genius.
