Ur is time. Past meets future, young forces are given the chance to carry time forward. Ur is origin. Where we recognize our roots, the past experiences that inform our perspective of the path ahead. Ur is wilderness. The scree clinging to the mountain, hard rock: impassable, majestic and of infinite beauty. Time, origin and nature are core values in “UR”. The recordings consist exclusively of commissioned works, written by composers in affiliation with the musical community in Trondheim. The composers have different backgrounds and tonal language, providing this record with a complex and complementary repertoire. Composers featured include Odd Johan Overoye, Oyvind Johan Eiksund, Martin Eikeset Koren, Geir Dohlie Gjerdsjo, and Eva Holm Foosnaes.

This wonderful release features Schubert's String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, D. 810 and Grieg's String Quartet in G Minor, Op. 27. By placing side by side two works that at first sight seem fairly different, this recording aims to bring into the open, for the first time, the fascinating details that link them.

The music captured by 2L features Norwegian composers and performers and an international repertoire reflected in the Nordic atmosphere. These immersive recordings not only transform the entire listening experience, but also - more radically - these innovative recordings overturn some very basic concepts regarding how music is composed and performed. 2L emphasize immersive audio and have garnered no less than 36 American GRAMMY nominations, 28 of these in craft categories Best Engineered Album, Best SS Album and Producer of the Year. The album LUX won the award for Best Immersive Audio at the 62nd GRAMMY Awards. MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) draws on recent research in auditory neuroscience, digital coding and in the human perception of high-quality sound. Underlying concepts target the whole system from studio to home, analog-to-analog path and leap beyond a narrow digital-domain view of high-quality sound. The "Music Origami" folding technology creates a single, compact, efficient, streamable file with no playback restrictions, that can be used for download or streaming and enjoyed in many different situations including mobile, in-car, on a PC, with a Hi-Fi and so on. The MQA file can be fully unfolded to recover the exact sound of the studio preview using a decoder. To add convenience, unfolding can proceed step by step, enabling a number of intermediate quality steps, each of which can be previewed in the studio and authenticated by the content creators. MQA will play back on any device to deliver higher than CD-quality. When paired with an MQA decoder, the file reveals the original master recording.

Can the dualism of life, nature and art be expressed in pure music? This is the question the multi-talented composer Flint Juventino Beppe - formerly known as Fred Jonny Berg - has set out to answer. The album Remote Galaxy is a journey in time and space, a journey given meaning by the album's music and philosophy. The music is uncompromisingly honest, with a genuine power of it's own. Using well-known acoustic technology, the composer takes US to some unusual and, for most of us, unknown places. Remote Galaxy continues the journey of 2L's Grammy nominated album Flute Mystery, and again the Philharmonia Orchestra is conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy to interpret these adventurous scores. The composer's deep spiritual interest in nature, philosophy and space is as central in the universe of Remote Galaxy as it was in Flute Mystery. Beppe's music leaves a unique fingerprint in the artistic world: there is quite simply nothing like it. The individual and inventive nature of his orchestral works demands a rich palette of instruments and an extended use of woodwinds, brass and organ. As solo instruments, the intense but delicate sound of the clarinet, the scope of the flute's range of expression and the special characteristics of the rarely used viola da gamba make for an inimitable atmosphere captured in 2L's innovative surround sound technology. With the introduction of height channels, acoustic reflections create a natural sound presence originating from both around and above the listener.

In these twentieth-century sonatas, from the late Romantic and expressionistic Valen, through Stravinsky’s neoclassical period, to Lutoslawski’s more modernistic style, the three composers are searching for inspiration in the past- Valen in the rigours of Bach’s counterpoint, Stravinsky in antique verse forms such as we find in Virgil, and Lutoslawski in Baroque music. These interactions with artistic models from earlier times result in three highly individual compositions, each appealing both to the heart and to the mind. The tentative beginnings of the duo partnership of Bard Monsen and Gunnar Flagstad took place in the autumn of 1999, when they met at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo- Gunnar as the newly-appointed accompanist for string players at the institute, and Bard studying the violin with Alf Richard Kraggerud and Stephan Barratt-Due. Bard later moved to the US to study with the legendary violin pedagogue Mauricio Fuks, but he continued to meet up with Gunnar at different musical events. It was a particularly successful concert at a festival in 2014, where they played Lutoslawski’s Partita, that served as the catalyst for a more regular musical partnership. This led to a thorough perusal of the 20th century duet repertoire, and the present recording in which three iconic works from a profoundly fascinating period in music history interact with each other is the fruition of this perusal.

This album is spun out of the musical friendship between Christophersen and Haltlia, and features whirling overtone spectra, virtuosic gestures, beautiful melodic ambiguity and quiet spaces – musical moments and extended structures – all woven together into an hour-long musical narrative. Bjørn Morten Christophersen is continually in pursuit of new musical stories. Whether writing for choir, orchestra, chamber ensembles or TV drama, a clear voice always carries the narrative. The six musicians gathered for this recording are all members of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, and they play together in the ensemble Norwegian Brass Expo. They are among the best and most experienced brass players in Scandinavia and come from a Nordic brass tradition advocating a homogenous and beautiful sound.
