Fantasias Mediterraneas: Spanish Music For Clarinet And Piano
Clarinet Classics presents a recital of Spanish clarinet music given by the pre-eminent Spanish clarinettist Joan Enric Lluna. After the guitar, the clarinet is the most popular instrument in Spain, and there is, therefore a wealth of music written for the instrument by Spanish composers. Virtuoso music written by the Sarasates of the clarinet including Romero, Menendez and Yuste. Evocative pieces performed in a totally authentic style. Music from the best of the older generation, including Montsalvatge, and from the brightest lights of the younger generation including Cano and Brotons. This CD, the first of its kind, presents an example of this rich and exciting repertoire - showing a variety of periods in Spanish 20th century music. Press Quote Little of the extensive Spanish solo repertoire for the instrument has found its way out of the country, however; this conspectus of a century and-a-half of composers for it will be practically virgin territory for all but the best informed. Lluna and his excellent pianist......most impressive. Gramophone

Victorian Clarinet Tradition
Following their highly successful previous disc - The Bel Canto Clarinettist, CC0014, this distinguished duo goes from strength to strength with their latest CD recorded specially for Clarinet Classics. This important disc features works written for the great players of the Victorian Clarinet Tradition. Most important of these were Henry Lazarus and his pupil Charles Draper who continued the tradition into the twentieth century. A further thread connects the tradition to the present day : Colin Bradbury was a pupil of Frederick Thurston, who was himself a pupil of Draper. o Edward German's delightful Romance o Ebenezer Prout's neglected Sonata o Two songs with clarinet obbligato by Sir George Macfarren, featuring the soprano, Elaine Barry A collection of little known but delightful and rewarding music written for the eminent clarinettists of the day, and performed here by one of the most eminent clarinettists of our own day. Press Quote 'Bradbury and Davies .... keen and sympathetic advocates.' GRAMOPHONE
