Until the mid-sixteenth century, the cello was only used for accompanying purposes. It was not until around 1660 that the cello came into it's own, thanks to some alterations that were made to the instrument by luthiers in Bologna. Therefore it is no surprise that the first composers for the cello were Italian. The first disc of this anthology presents the origins of the solo literature, with works by Domenico Gabrielli, Bononcini and Marcello. The second features sonatas by Geminiani and Vivaldi. Roel Dieltiens is the soloist on this fascinating collection.

This new release presents the recordings of Georg Philipp Telemann’s transverse flute music made by celebrated early music artist, Barthold Kuijken. Kuijken’s technical and artistic mastery can be heard both a solo, such as during his legendary recording of the 12 Fantasias for solo flute, as well as with some of his long-standing chamber music partners. To the beautiful, complete set of Sonate metodiche, this inspired and inspiring survey adds the Suite in D minor for flute, violin and continuo, the Quartet in G major for flute, 2 violas da gamba and continuo, and the Cantata “Ihr Volker hort”, with the guest appearance of countertenor Rene Jacobs. This release is an important step in the current rediscovery and appreciation of Telemann’s exquisite compositional output.

Possibly one of the back rows would have to assess the significance of Georg Druschetzky (1745-1819) only on the basis of it's popular timpani concerto, so it would concede. As a composer of wind music Druschetzky has, however, among his contemporaries almost unique importance. His extensive, almost all musical genres comprehensive oeuvre that counts 150 works for a variety of wind instruments. These have a variety and ingenuity that ever surpass itself so creative minds of music harmony as Franz Joseph Krommer or Triebensee in the best pieces. The Amphion Wind Octet here gives us an overview of the Bl�sermusik Druschetzky's that can include even with even voices. The whole is so successful that we do not know which to admire more, the high art of wind ensembles or the ingenuity Druschetzky's. Undoubtedly one of the most accomplished harmony music albums of the last time!

The 16th century was for the Iberian peninsula as a moving and culturally profitable era whose visual art is counted everywhere among the highlights of European painting. With the development of the musical heritage is the weak point, however a little more and so the time was the astonishment and enthusiasm large for L Colombina with some selected madrigals and ensaladas became known.

A CD full of jewels! In addition to the oldest functioning organ in southern Italy and some recently restored treasures of the 18th century, there are compositions that reflects the brilliant artistic past of southern Italy. Whether it's the circle around the famous Don Gesualdo di Venosa, or one of the pioneers of classical Leonardo Leo: "Basilicata" offers an impressive sketch of those musical landscape that has kept us in the south of Italy to this day.

Although the songs for voice play a comparatively minor role in Haydn's oeuvre with piano accompaniment, yet demonstrates the careful installation, preparation and clear differentiation from it's competitors in the intention to appropriate on the open market than in all musical genres, if not recommended as the superior composer and establish. The minor importance, playing his songs today, is one of the many injustices that never really called into question repertoire education, from an ignorant underestimation Haydn speaks. Anne Cambier and Jan Vermeulen spot him here for us again to be extremely skilful song composers.

Johann Kaspar Mertz (1806-1856) was a Hungarian guitarist and composer. He lived and worked in Vienna, which had been home to various prominent figures of the guitar, including Diabelli and Giuliani. Mertz's compositions, unlike that of most of his contemporaries, followed the pianistic models of Chopin, Schubert and Schumann. On this recording, Rapha�lla Smits performs the grand fantasias Harmonie du soir and Le Romantique, alongside several other works, including Mertz's transcriptions of six Schubert Lieder. Smits plays two historic French instruments as well as an eight-stringed guitar by John Gilbert.

The special attraction of the early Baroque Spanish music lies in it's blending of Art music and Folk music. The rhythms, the colors, the instruments and melodies have often points to direct Popular Roots. The Ensemble Private Musicke and singer Monika Mauch and Josep Cabr� have put together some nice examples. The sequence of songs and dances of the CD gives an irresistible Spanish flair.

For her complete works for piano and violin Linda Nicholson and Hiro Kurosaki use the appropriate historic Viennese instruments and are therefore closer to Beethoven than any previous recordings on period instruments. But to hear are the neglected "small" works for piano and violin. In the second episode, therefore in addition to sonatas Op.23 and 24 with the previously incurred Twelve Variations on "Se vuol ballare" from Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro WoO 40 (the early 1790s) and the six German Dances WoO 42 (1796) acquaintance be made.
