In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Aliud Records, the label offers a delightful new CD featuring an enthusiastic group of singers.

Keyboardist Johan Brouwer studied organ under Wim van Beek and music theory under Frans van Eeden at the Groningen conservatory, then harpsichord at the Amsterdam conservatory. He has given concerts in the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Portugal, England, and Germany, and has served as leader of the Groningen baroque orchestra Collegium Musicum. His previous harpsichord albums have garnered him critical acclaim across the globe. For this release, Brouwer explores the influence that Italian music had on French music and on the music of J. S. Bach. He performs this program on a copy of a 17th century French harpsichord, built by David Rubio after an instrument by Vaudry. The Vaudry instrument has a characteristic French timbre and a more Italian mode of construction, which makes it a suitable instrument for the recording at hand.

Composer Paulus Folkertsma plays an important role in the musical history of Fryslan. He was born on January 15, 1901 in Wommels. Five years later, the family moved to Berlikum, where young Paulus got his first violin lessons from master Groenewold, the local teacher. When at age 14, Paulus went to the Maastricht College of Education for teachers, music became ever more important to him. This is where Folkertsma wrote his first compositions. After temporary appointments in Leeuwarden and Sondel, he became a school teacher at the public primary school in Aldeboarn, where he worked for over 40 years. In 1956 he married Viennese Helga Khek - they had four children. Paulus passed away in 1972 in Aldeboarn.

Bach and the French baroque the working title of the program is Bach and the French baroque. L'art de toucher le clavecin by Fran�ois Couperin (1668-1733) was published in 1716 as a manual for the French style and gives important instructions for playing the harpsichord as regards finger positions and ornamentations. The pr�ludes are written-out improvisations in the style of the Pr�ludes non m�sur�e. the Suites of Georg B�hm (1661-1733) were produced in an environment orientated towards France, like the court in German Celle, where the French consort of Duke Georg Wilhelm resided. After her husband's death, she lived for some years in L�neburg, where B�hm worked in the Johannis-Kirche. Besides the usual dances, the Suite in F Minor played here contains for instance a French Ciaconne.

Klatwerk3, s piano jazz trio from the Netherlands, takes a musical journey on their new CD Eyeopener. The group has created a solid, mature sound ranging from swing and funk to crisp cinematic minimalism.

Out of Bounds contains interesting and little known 20th and 21st century music for bass trombone in a chamber music setting. The instrument is rarely heard as the soloist with chamber ensembles and most of the pieces on this disc are rarely performed or have not previously been recorded. The bass trombone can be heard running as a rich thread through the works. Michael Eversden was born in England and grew up in the rich musical scene of the London Borough of Redbridge. He was a member of the Redbridge and Essex Youth Orchestras and from 1975 to 1978 the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO) appearing throughout the UK. Michael studied bass trombone at the Royal College of Music under Gerry McElhone, bass trombonist with the Royal Opera, Covent Garden. In 1980 he was appointed as principal bass trombonist with the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra (NNO) and has since worked as a freelancer with nearly all the major Dutch and British orchestras. He is a founder member of the Dutch Brass and the Trombonauts (educational concerts for junior school children), teaches at the Groningen College of Music and also composes and arranges music for the bass trombone and other brass.

Niccol� Paganini (1782-1840) is a legendary figure in the history of music, who brought about a revolution in violin playing that forever changed the way music was composed for the instrument. Musical contemporaries such as Chopin, Schubert, and Schumann were staggered by the violinist's great artistry, as were the poets Goethe and Heine. Young Dutch violinist Bob van der Ent has received wide acclaim for his impeccable technique, seasoned interpretations, and characteristic style. With these recordings of Paganini's 24 Caprices, Bob van der Ent has become the first Dutch violinist of his generation - and one of just a few in the world - to have released the entire cycle. Charles Dekeyser began his vocal instruction under Martine Reyners and later studied at the Brussels Royal Conservatoire where he attended class under bass baritone Marcel Vanaud. He has made himself known across the world for his rich bass voice. He has performed many concert series in the last several years which feature oratorium and Lied repertoire. For this release, Dekeyser has chosen works from Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Gustav Mahler, and more, creating an entertaining programme which shows the singer’s versatility.

Van Hemel was a moderately modern composer who used classical musical forms combined with atonal harmonies and melodies. He applied the twelve-tone technique, bitonality, “germ cell technique” and serialism but continued to strive to captivate his audience through lyricism.

The present double CD is a selection from fifty years of recording. They are recordings of Johann Brower's work as organist, harpsichordist, conductor and orchestra leader. This CD is released on the occasion of his eightieth birthday.

In 1901, Edvard Grieg encountered many ‘Chopinesque’ elements in the latest work of the Zeeland-born (i.e., Dutch) composer and painter Gerard von Brucken Fock. The 24 preludes from opus 15 were played to him in Norway by Julius Röntgen, a respected (half) Dutch pianist and composer. From that moment onward, Grieg spoke – in jest, according to Von Brucken Fock – of ‘the Dutch Chopin’.
