Custódio Castelo is the world’s leading player of the Portuguese fado guitar, the instrument that helped make fado music Portugal’s Intangible Cultural Heritage (UNESCO).Like Carlos Paredes, Custódio Castelo creates groundbreaking new sounds that have promoted the Portuguese Guitar to a concert instrument that can be played solo or as accompaniment. The film Waves of Joy was shot at the Kenduli Mela in West Bengal in 1973. It's a huge musical and religious gathering. The songs on the accompanying soundtrack were recorded in nearby Shantiniketan in 2001. Baul music and poetry are amongst the greatest expressions of Bengali culture that, as a native, Deben Bhattacharya was able to appreciate and bring to us their profound truth and beauty. During the 20th century more people started traveling and became more aware and interested in the world's musical traditions. Technological advances meant that the equipment necessary to record those musical traditions in their natural environment became more portable and higher quality. A true paradise on earth, the 118 islands of French Polynesia have always set every man and woman dreaming and have fascinated explorers, painters and writers alike with their legendary gentle way of life and breathtaking landscapes. Tahiti dances are performed to the rhythm of the pahu drums, and to the sound of the nose flute, called the vivo. These dances are accompanied by songs and a choir that support a solo singer. Choreographies evoke two major concerns of the past: war, expressed through the men’s wide and jerky movements, and love, interpreted by the women’s swaying and lascivious dancing. These beautiful dances officially disappeared with the Christianization of the islands but they resurfaced in the early 20th century. The costumes of the Tahiti artists remind us of the ocean and travelling. The women’s skirts are made out of straw, the tops are solely made out of coconut shells, and the men go bare torso; such costumes evoke the heat and exotic character of this ensemble. Tahiti Here Group has revived its ancestral traditions and proudly presents exhilarating rhythmic dances.

Vasco Hernandez is currently one of the most promising talents of the new flamenco guitar. Originally influenced by the gypsy culture of his childhood neighborhood, he soon began experimenting with his own sound. Motivated by an intuitive creative instinct, he explores the guitar in a personal way, creating a new sound which is a true reflection of his own identity.
