By modern standards, Thomas Muntzer might be described as a liberation theologian. A few years before his violent death, the ordained priest married a former nun (like Martin Luther), devoted himself to helping the needy, and ultimately became actively involved in the Peasants' War-actions that alienated him from both the secular authorities and Luther himself. Muntzer, an impassioned advocate for the oppressed, met his end on the executioner's block in 1525. On May 27, 2025, the 500th anniversary of his execution will be commemorated. To mark the occasion, the vocal ensemble Amarcord presents two works Muntzer created as part of his liturgical reforms: the first German-language Christmas Mass and the�Amt�(Office) and Matins for Easter. Muntzer translated the texts from Latin into German, aligning them with traditional chorale melodies. The result is a deeply contemplative experience, lasting over 75 minutes.

Even today, there are those who want to hear the same "female Beethoven" in Emilie Mayer that contemporaries of the Prussian composer believed to recognise in her works. The label of course does not explain the artist's notable successes. She had a classically informed but romantically inspired temperament and was successful in negotiating the balance between both worlds. The blurring of boundaries she creates is not intrusive, but is hidden among other places in her individual treatment of the large orchestra she calls for. This was a very special challenge for the orchestrator Andreas N. Tarkmann when he reconstructed the lost score of the B minor Symphony from the piano reduction for this recording. A highly dramatic panorama that results is a convincing connection to the Symphony in E major written two years later, creating a further journey of discovery through the world of Emilie Mayer.

In spite of the predominance of the opera in Italy during the nineteenth century, chamber music and symphonic music had never died out in the musical world. The "father of the opera" had a mastery of instrumental effects and a command of formal balance that made it possible for him to nourish his music with instrumental inspiration coming from chamber music. And the succession of Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini and Verdi, side by side with the new generations of Ponchielli, Catalani, Mancinelli, down to Puccini, Perosi and Mascagni, created the preconditions for the birth and development of the chamber-music genre. This was strengthened also by some chamber-music and vocal influences that had even antagonised the domination of belcanto and operatic singing. Though never actually becoming an attention-seeking attitude, creativeness, a majestic jargon that appeared in many composers ranging from Corelli to Paganini, from Scarlatti to Clementi and many others, became such a noble, brilliant language as to stand out as an original, lofty expression in the crowded maelstrom of operatic theatre. As admirable examples of this we can mention the quartets of Cherubini and Donizetti, that were splendidly assimilated by Bazzini, reaching the original examples of the contributions of Sgambati and Martucci, which appeared a few decades before the creative works of Marco Enrico Bossi. Kristina Marinova, a classically trained European pianist, captures the sonic tapestry of the Grateful Dead's music spanning from their inception in 1966 to their award winning and critically acclaimed three album Live European Tour in 1972 with THE BUS CAME BY AND I GOT ON from Navona Records. The Grateful Dead, known for their eclectic style which fused elements of rock, folk, country, jazz, bluegrass, blues, rock and roll, gospel, reggae, world music, and psychedelia presents a unique challenge for an artist raised on Bach, Rachmaninoff, Mozart, and Scriabin. The intricate interweaving of Jerry Garcia's expressive lead guitar work along with Phil Lesh's unique and innovative bass lines melded with Bob Weir's unconventional rhythms (not to mention the Band's vocal harmonies) made for an attempt at capturing the "true sound" of the Grateful Dead on a sole piano, demanding and impossibly complicated. Nevertheless, the bus came by and, undaunted, Marinova got on.
