The German-born conductor Otto Klemperer, a towering figure in the musical history of the 20th century, died at the age of 88 on July 8th 1973, so 2023 will mark the 50th anniversary of his death. His complete recordings on Warner Classics catalogue are being made available for the first time in 2 huge separate boxes; the first volume with the Symphonic Works, Concertos & Lieder (95CD) will be released in June 2023. All recordings are remastered in HD 192/24 from original sources. Beethoven's Symphonies by Klemperer and the Philharmonia Orchestra are one of the most well-known and acclaimed versions of these works, and the "Choral" Symphony with no doubt one of it's highlights.

'She clearly was born to play the cello,' wrote theNew York Timesof Jacqueline du Pr� in 1967. Just five years later her career was cut tragically short by illness. Providing a treasurable memento of her art, this is a newly-assembled 5 LP collection of masterworks for cello and orchestra from three centuries. It includes the Elgar Concerto, so closely associated with du Pr�, and a 1968 recording of Strauss'sDon Quixotewhich, after a complex genesis, was not released until 1995, the height of the CD era. Now, it makes it's first appearance on LP. In each work, the cellist provides evidence of what her teacher, William Pleeth, described as the 'perfect balance of youth and maturity.' Jacqueline du Pr�, performing with the two conductors most closely associated with her career, brings characteristic exuberance, passion and colour to three cello concertos rooted in the 18th century. In his memoir A Life In Music, Daniel Barenboim wrote: "I have never encountered anyone for whom music was such a natural form of expression as it was for Jacqueline... She had a capacity to imagine sound such as I never met in any other musician."

Itzhak Perlman, born in 1945, is the supreme violinist of his time. The Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach captures the musical essence of the festive season. The most important Christmas setting by Leipzig's famed grandmaster is heard in concerts all across the world every year. This reference recording of all six cantatas is resplendent and features a dream group of Bach specialists as soloists. The festive grandeur of the sections with full orchestra and the intimacy of arias with vocal and instrumental soloists in virtuoso dialogue have been combined by Ton Koopman into a convincing and timeless overall concept. Romain de la Haye-Serafini, aka Molecule, is an electronic music composer, DJ and musical adventurer, who has made field-recording his trademark. For several years this Breton has travelled the world, from the tumultuous waters of the North Atlantic or Nazare in Portugal, to a Vendee Globe boat on which he embarked to search for sounds which he then sculpted into their final form. Two years ago, he decided to immerse himself in the heart of a symphony orchestra, a less dangerous but equally fascinating adventure. He captured every sound that the orchestra made, not only those created by Mahler and Beethoven, but also the sounds of the instruments themselves, from which he created a symphonic work which was then transcribed for 83 musicians. The Orchestre National de Lille under Alexandre Bloch accepted the challenge offered by this unprecedented exploration and now presents Molecule's first symphony, titled the Quantum Symphony; it is not only a bridge between the past and the future but also an introspective work by a unique artist.

This album is all about Tadd Dameron (1917 - 65), one of the most important American jazz composer/musicians. The master baritone saxophonist and perennial pole winner Gary Smulyan conceived the brilliant idea of recording Dameron compositions with lyrics. The vocal part is phenomenally rendered by the young talent Anais Reno. Three songs including the lovely This Night Of Stars have hitherto never been recorded. This recording of Mahler's Fifth Symphony by the Tonhalle-Orchester Zurich under it's Music Director Paavo Jarvi, is the first in a complete cycle of Mahler symphonies. Jarvi has of course conducted Mahler's works many times in his career, but has waited for the right moment to record the complete cycle in the studio: the right moment not only in his life as a musician but also in his relationship with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zurich; the maturity and power revealed in the orchestra's recordings for Alpha Classics have been hailed by the music press since 2019. "Mahler truly opened up a new universe with the Fifth, in which he initiated an incredibly personal style of music-making." says Paavo Jarvi. "It is the very nature of it's opening - a military funeral - and of it's tragedy, in conjunction with the very idea of beginning a symphony in this way, which signals that something completely different is in store for us".
