On period instruments To this day, Venice is one of the European cities that exerts an extraordinary attraction on tourists, and if you trace it's history back, it underwent a development from the 15th to the 18th century in particular that predestined it to become a music metropolis. But what is the attraction of Venetian music? Probably the freshness, open-heartedness and lively bustle of the people with their informal and open-minded disposition, living in a harbour city that opened up to the world early on thanks to it's location on the Mediterranean and blossomed through international trade. Without a doubt, only Vivaldi's music is able to convey these essential elements to us contemporary people in an easily understandable and simple way. Miho Fukio (baroque bassoon) plays the 3rd CD here, together with Dominik Worner (bass) and the Ensemble F. This CD represents the endeavour to bring together and present Antonio Vivaldi's (1678-1741) bassoon concertos with the bass arias from his operas, which are closely related to the bassoon repertoire.

Shorena Tsintsabadze: For me, there is no more beautiful place in the world than Georgia. Everything in it is beautiful and unique. I owe the development of my personality and character to my roots, my family and my motherland, which I am always proud of. With this project, I would like to present the music of Georgian composers from different eras, from the 19th century to the present, in order to give an impression of how the compositional traditions changed and how Georgian classical music developed. Despite the extraordinary musicality of our people, cultural traditions, folklore and Orthodox singing date back to the 4th century BC. Classical music emerged quite late (the first opera and ballet theatre in Georgia was founded in 1851 and the first opera "?" - "Twilight" was not written until 1923 by Zakhari Paliashvili). The reason for such a late development of classical music is the constant struggle for survival and the endless wars from all sides. Georgia is a state with more than 3,000 years of history and during this time there has not been a single generation, including myself and the younger ones, that has not experienced the horrors of war. Despite all this, we not only survived the fighting, but also preserved our culture, the Georgian language and script. Today, when Georgia has received the status of a candidate country and we have never been so close to Europe, the fate of my country is once again in danger. We are forced to fight for our rights and defend the constitution of our country, which is attacked from time to time by certain forces both inside and outside the country's borders. I really hope and want to believe that we will defend the interests of our country and give it the opportunity to continue on it's path towards European integration in order to become a worthy member of the EU family. I think that this album is relevant in the context of recent events and trends in the world. I believe that more people want to get to know our culture, art and music, which my album will definitely contribute to.

Building a new organ is always an exciting journey for an organ builder. What should a new organ look like, how should it sound, how should it fit into the church interior, what traditional reference points are there, what should be played on this new organ in addition to the important church music, how historical, how modern may the action, wind system and finally the entire pipework be built. In the Church of the Four Evangelists in the Protestant parish of Berlin-Pankow, the requirements were clear. An organ by the famous Berlin organ builder Carl August Buchholz (1796 - 1884) no longer existed in the church. Is it possible to rebuild a Buchholz organ in such a way that it seems possible that C.A. Buchholz would have built this new organ in exactly the same way in 1840, for example? We organ builders at the Wegscheider organ workshop set ourselves this special task, having already restored and reconstructed several Buchholz organs, visited and examined other surviving Buchholz organs and were very familiar with this particular organ sound language of the first half of the 19th century in the Prussian lands. A suitable specification with 27 stops was created, an early Schwellwerk with side doors (entirely in the Buchholz style) was designed, the metal and wooden pipes as well as the reed stops were built according to the models and the voicing was adapted to the church interior in terms of response, sound volume and dynamics. Particular emphasis was placed on the feel of the keys, which must harmonise with what the player hears. The aim was not to build a particularly light action, but rather one that harmonised with the early romantic sound. The historical keyboard aesthetics with the stop action, the music desk, the swell lever, the historical proportions between the manual pianos and the pedal keyboard also serve to immerse the performer completely in the early romantic tonal spirit. Kristian Wegscheider, master organ builder Dresden, Henry Fairs, Professor of Artistic Organ Playing at the Berlin University of the Arts, plays the complete works for organ by Robert Schumann.

The Belgian-born composer Guillaume Lekeu (1870-1894) left us only a small oeuvre. One of his most important compositions is the Sonata pour piano et violon, which is dedicated to Eugene Ysae. The great Belgian violinist described it as "a masterpiece that need not fear comparison with Franck's violin sonata in terms of it's wealth of ideas and melodic inspiration". Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) was one of the most original and versatile composers of the 20th century. His Theme et variations, composed in Paris in 1932 as a wedding present for his first wife, the violinist and composer Claire Delbos, and performed together a few months after their marriage, explores the ideas of time and rhythm in search of their possible variations. The sonata is a form that has also recently attracted the interest of Nicolas Bacri (*1961), one of the most performed and most recorded composers on the international music scene today. The Sonata No. 4 op. 148 "In the style of Brahms", which was composed between June and October 2018 at the request of Agnes Pyka and Laurent Wagschal, reflects this second tendency and is Bacri's great homage to the Hamburg master, for whom he harbours a special affection. The violinist Carlotta Malquoris and the pianist Andrea D'Amato are an established duo that performs enthusiastically at numerous concerts in Germany and abroad.

Domenico Giuseppe Scarlatti (1685-1757) devoted himself to a single form like no other composer before him. The more than 550 mostly single-movement sonatas for the harpsichord influenced numerous composers throughout the ages, from his contemporary Johann Sebastian Bach and Frederic Chopin to 21st-century artists such as Georg Katzer. The four selected sonatas K 27, K 213, K 247 and K 268 represent only a small selection of his immensely varied oeuvre and yet they illuminate all the different aspects of his extraordinarily creative composing. Scarlatti himself modestly described many of his sonatas as "Essercizi per gravicembalo". His sonata works contain every conceivable technical challenge, as he himself was one of the most sought-after and virtuoso harpsichordists of his time. Georg Katzer (1935-2019) composed the Five Miniatures in 1971. They are primarily to be understood as gestural music. Although the playing technique is traditional with a few exceptions (the use of the elbows or rolling hands), the miniatures reveal a wealth of ideas in musical forms of expression that evoke the most diverse sensations in a short space of time and space. The work Due to my admiration for D.S. was composed by Georg Katzer in 2001. The close relationship between Fanny Hensel (1805-1847) and her brother Felix Mendelssohn encouraged both siblings throughout their musical careers. And yet, throughout her life, Fanny Hensel fought for even remotely similar recognition of her extraordinary talent as a pianist, conductor and composer. The Four Songs for Pianoforte, Opus 2, are among the few works published by Bote & Bock in 1846 during Fanny Hensel's lifetime.

With a keen sense of musical poetry, pianist Jurg Hanselmann explores the early piano works of Josef Gabriel Rheinberger. The twelve character pieces for the 'new' piano (1864) present the young Liechtenstein composer as a true master of musical miniatures: from the light, dance-like Duettino to the mysterious Notturno to the brilliant Etude and moments of heartfelt melancholy. The program is complemented by the rarely performed Four Fugues for Piano (1862), which impressively showcase Rheinberger's masterful contrapuntal artistry. All works are world premiere recordings. With rich color, clarity, and heartfelt expression, Jurg Hanselmann opens the door to Rheinberger's previously little-known piano universe.

For Joseph Haas (1879-1960), meeting Max Reger, whom he followed to Leipzig, was a life-changing experience. He soon began to enjoy success as a composer, which led to his appointment as a teacher of composition at the conservatory in Stuttgart in 1911 and to the Academy of Music in Munich in 1921. The second episode contains a representative selection of Joseph Haas' piano works, which convey the diversity and uniqueness of his compositional style. Pianist Gerit Mense more than does justice to Joseph Haas' work with her colorful, emphatic playing!

With Charlotte! Adieu!, guitarist Philipp Schmidt dedicates his album to the young musician Charlotte Beslay (nee Levavasseur), a student of Fernando Sor and a talented pianist whose playing is said to have impressed even Rossini. Her early death in 1835 - she died at the age of only about twenty while giving birth to her son - left a deep impression on Sor. In moving memory of her, he composed the Fantaisie elegiaque, Op. 59, whose conclusion bears the words 'Charlotte! Adieu!': a musical farewell full of sincerity and sorrow. In addition to this central work, the album presents selected etudes, lecons, and character pieces from Op. 6, Op. 29, Op. 31, and Op. 35, as well as the meditative miniature Le Calme, Op. 50, and the virtuoso Variations on a Theme by Mozart, Op. 9. On a historical Romantic guitar, Philipp Schmidt allows Sor's music to shine anew in it's original clarity, warmth, and poetic expressiveness.

Born in Bratislava, soprano Simona Saturova, internationally renowned for her opera and oratorio performances, dedicates her CD Nocturno to the fascination of evening and night - that time between dreams, longing, and silence that has always inspired composers and poets. The program ranges from Mozart's Abendempfindung to Schubert and Schumann to late Romanticism and early modernism. Two songs by Richard Strauss form the framework - Die Nacht as an atmospheric beginning and Morgen as a hopeful conclusion. Two piano pieces, Chopin's Nocturne in D-flat major, Op. 27 No. 2, and Schumann's In der Nacht, reflect nocturnal feelings in purely instrumental form.

The title stands for the idea of re-coloring - for consciously questioning listeners' expectations and musical attributions, between tradition and new beginnings. What happens when classical forms, harmonic contrasts, and contemporary musical languages collide? The rare combination of harp, clarinet, and cello in the Trianima ensemble creates a delicate, transparent soundscape that opens up space for nuances and subtleties.
