Johann Vesque von Puttlingen was not only an outstanding composer, he was also one of the leading law practitioners of his day. He was once described as “the most important Austrian composer of lieder between Schubert and Brahms.”; The majority of this program has never before been recorded. An equal balance of serious and comic lieder has been chosen.; Tenor Lothar Blum performs these clever works, accompanied by pianist Tobias Krampen.

“Fern der Heimat ist der Mond” reveals to listeners the most diverse, colorful and nuanced settings of ancient Chinese poetry accomplished by composers from all over Europe – Italy, Germany, France, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and England – during the 20th c.Together with soprano Lydia Leitner and mezzo-soprano Alexandra Paulmichl, pianist Fan Yang, who is also responsible for this compilation, presents a selection of twenty-eight finely crafted and representative songs that show the importance and necessity of intercultural exchange between poetry and music.
