Extase is the new concept album by pianist Mario Haring. It is an unusual piano program with special guests that captures the energetic format of a party weekend in Berlin. Sophie Dervaux's new album "Vivaldi Bassoon Concertos" is part of her larger project to record all of 39 of Vivaldi's bassoon concertos. This album presents the first 6 concertos of this journey; RV474, RV497, RV481, RV501, RV484, and RV473. Apart from the violin, Vivaldi wrote as many concertos for no other instrument than the bassoon, knowing expertly how to write for this instrument to highlight it's unique qualities. Vivaldi's concertos have accompanied Dervaux throughout her musical career, from her beginning with the bassoon in her youth to now being a member of the Vienna Philharmonic. Sophie Dervaux recorded this album with the Barock orchestra La Folia and their leader Robin Peter M�ller, playing a modern instrument as she feels this is how she herself can offer the best version of her interpretation to the listener.

Pieces of a Dream" by composer Christian Jost is a unique chamber music suite of symphonic proportions for flugelhorn/trumpet, vibraphone, and piano played by Simon Hofele, Frank Dupree, and Christoph Sietzen. This innovative composition transcends the boundaries of traditional music genres, inviting listeners to explore over 50 minutes of intricate melodies, harmonies, and rhythms across it's four captivating movements: "Is It Safe," "Come to Me," "Driven by a Strange Desire," and "In My Dream, It's All Alive." Is It Safe" opens the suite with an elegiac duo of flugelhorn and piano, setting the stage for a sonic exploration of deceptive beauty and emotional depth. The flugelhorn weaves a breath-like melody, creating a vivid and nuanced dreamscape. At the same time, the piano enriches this melody with complex emotional progressions. "Come to Me" introduces the vibraphone in a mysterious and melancholic mood, escalating into a scherzo-like movement filled with virtuosic passages and an ostinato rhythm that propels the music forward. The third movement, "Driven by a Strange Desire," marks the climax of the suite with it's fanfare-like vibraphone solo and a trumpet that soars over hammered piano rhythms and polyrhythmic structures. This extensive movement travels through varied sections, leading to a dramatic and fast-paced finale. "In My Dream, It's All Alive," the final movement, captures the essence of the suite with it's fragile mood and enchantingly tender melodies, wrapping up the musical journey in a transfigured serenity." Pieces of a Dream" stands at the crossroads of genres - not confined to jazz, yet it swings and grooves; nor is it experimental new music, as it embraces atmospheric drifting. This work represents a path untrodden, crafted by a new generation of musicians unbound by categorical constraints. Austrian pianist-composer Friedrich Gulda (1930-2000) was celebrated as brilliant and criticized as an enfant terrible. + On the album’s title piece, “Donau So Blue” two seasoned jazz musicians, bassist Hans Rettenbacher and drummer Manfred Josel accompany Gulda. + His scurrilous texts – also featured on this somewhat bizarre spoken word MPS production – are reminiscent of the works of Viennese actor-cabarettist Helmut Qualtinger and Austrian-American cabarettist- composer Georg Kreisler. + And who was the singer Albert Golowin? + He was actually a pseudonym Gulda used for singing performances. + Gulda felt himself to be an outsider in the jazz world. + He was a renowned Mozart and Beethoven interpreter, but did not want to be tied down to the world of classical music. + His antipathy towards the concert establishment drove the piano virtuoso into the jazz scene. + He played with such greats as Dizzy Gillespie, Chick Corea, and Rolf Kühn.

Bruckner's Fifth Symphony is considered the absolute pinnacle of his oeuvre. Bruckner himself saw it as his "contrapuntal masterpiece". The Viennese musicologist Robert Haas calls Bruckner's 5th Symphony a "monumental work of confession" and "a high gift to the music world." It is an expression and example of human creative power. It delights with it's beauty, and inspires to the idea of a higher purpose in life. Born in 1901 in North Moravia, Franz Konwitschny - a trained violist - gave up the musical direction of the Hanover Opera House in 1949 to take over the direction of the "Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra" in the Soviet Occupation Zone. Between 1953 and 1955 he also directed the "Dresden Staatskapelle". In addition to that he also took over the direction of the East Berlin "Staatsoper Unter den Linden" in 1955and held this dual position until his death in 1962. The busy Konwitschny was certainly the most important conducting personality of the early GDR - and with his omnipresence in the country's music centers, in a sense the general music director of the young state. These recordings, first released in 1962 on the GDR label "Eterna", are still regarded as a reference by subsequent generations of young musicians and listeners. Thanks to a loving analog remastering of the original tapes, these recordings now resound in new splendor and in a previously unheard-of sound quality.
