Detours, the debut Big Round Records release from percussionist Joe Porter and pianist Joel Goodfellow, showcases the jazz duo's capacity for collaboration and improvisation, with animated and dynamic versions of well-known film and literary compositions. Joe Porter, 2014 recipient of a Gold Medal for Creativity and Originality from the Global Music Awards, has performed in the UK, the Netherlands, Japan, China, Brazil, the US, and Canada. Joel Goodfellow is a piano instructor at the Univ. Of Lethbridge Music Conservatory in Alberta, Canada, where he is also an in-demand accompanist.

Jaffe's MANHATTAN PROJECTIONS is an album of the jazz composer/pianist's works for small band repertoire. This rerelease of the jazz classic includes the origi-�nal 7 works from the 1984 debut, the McDaniels session tracks from the 2001 Playscape reissue, plus 3 bonus tracks from the Tom McClung-Andy Jaffe piano trio exclusive to this release. Jaffe has been praised for his bold harmonic leaps and deft understanding of the intricacies of writing for both big and small band.

Exuberant and exciting is the Big Round Records debut of big band pianist and composer Ron Paley. This is not "just another pops album." Paley's work is cool, clever, and ridiculously fun. Seven of the ten tracks on The More You Know are completely composed, arranged, and performed by Ron Paley. "Theme" is energetic, exploring elements of upbeat jazz and classic boogie woogie. Fast-paced, too, is "U of M" where the artist/composer delves into the genres of gospel and rock as well-surprising the listener at the end with his impressive talent for percussing vocally. "A Beautiful Soul," and "P&Q" are exquisite jazz ballads that are par with the perfection of those Weill, Porter, or Gershwin. This is demonstrated, too, in Paley's Ballad Trilogy. "Listen to the Sound," explores the rhythmic character inherent in Latin dance genres. The title track, "The More You Know," is fresh and improvisatory. Paley's mash-up arrangement of Dietz and Schwartz's "Alone Together" an Orbison's "Pretty Woman," is the most experimental track on the album and demonstrates Paley's gift for transforming the expected into something altogether new. Paley's arrangement of Tchaikovsky's "Waltz of the Flowers," is a lounge treat, unlike any other interpretation of the favorited Nutcracker tune. Paley brings the same sort of originality to his fabulous arrangement of Chopin's Prelude in C-Minor, which concludes this treasure of a recording.

In their debut album with Big Round Records, guitarists Alex Lubet and Maja Radovanlija tap into their Jewish and Balkan heritage and transport listeners to an enigmatic and captivating aural world. Many of the works featured on The Enchanted Guitar Forest borrow from thematic material of traditional tunes from Eastern European and Jewish folk music, along with the incorporation of jazz and classical styles. A lyrical, rhythmically driven structure is the result of this compositional genius. Alex Lubert is a composer, performer, author and educator. He performs his own music as a solo artist, as well as collaborating with artists such as Guerino Mazzola, Iris Shiraishi, and Maja Radovanlija to name a few. He has performed his works on six continents, and his album Spectral Blues (2013) was received by music critic Ted Gioia among the "Best Albums of 2013." Maja Radovanlija is a native of Belgrade, Serbia, and has performed across Europe, North America, the United States, and across the Middle East. She is a member of the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet, and has won many awards and competitions. Specializing in improvised music, she frequently performs in the US with Improvised Ecosystems, and in Belgrade with the Improve Collective.
