'Origin' is an original, composed by Pharoah Sanders. This Is For You, John is available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on green colored vinyl. The back of the sleeve contains extensive liner notes by Benny Golson, reflecting meetings with John Coltrane and the inspirations behind the songs.

The recording era of 1939 to 1941 saw Benny Goodman at perhaps his most productive, working with incredible guitarist Charlie Christian to create a jazz sextet the likes of which the genre had never seen before. Lionel Hampton, Fletcher Henderson, Count Basie and Cootie Williams flesh out the six-piece, and the combination of these titans of the genre changed jazz forever.

Benny Goodman's jazz clarinet was as finely-tuned and and expertly used as any instrument in the history of popular music, "The King Of Swing" brought the raucous stomp of big band jazz to the masses. "Sing Me A Song (And Let Me Dance)" is a perfect encapsulation of the Goodman ethos. Why sit when you could swing?

Benny Golson is an American bebop/hard bop jazz tenor saxophonist, composer, and arranger. He came to prominence with the big bands of Lionel Hampton and Dizzy Gillespie, more as a writer than a performer, before launching his solo career. Golson is known for co-founding and co-leading The Jazztet with trumpeter Art Farmer in 1959. From the late 1960s through the 1970s Golson was in demand as an arranger for film and television and thus was less active as a performer, but he and Farmer re-formed the Jazztet in 1982.

Limited edition of 750 numbered copies on light green coloured 180-gram audiophile vinyl. Philadelphian jazz legend Benny Golson, an American bebop/hard bop jazz tenor saxophonist, composer, and arranger, has had a long and storied career. He has played with luminaries such as John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, and Art Blakey, to name just a few. His credentials are rock solid and his skills as a tenor sax legend are undisputed. With his 1978 album "I'm Always Dancin' to the Music," Benny Golson takes a unique turn. Known primarily for his hard bop roots and classic compositions like "Whisper Not" and "Killer Joe," Golson steps into the realms of jazz-funk and disco with this release, reflecting the musical trends of the late 1970s. The title song is a stellar dance groove, holding heavyweight status among underground soul, funk, and jazz aficionados-a true 'rare groove' indeed. Produced by George Butler, whose credentials are no less than impressive, it's no wonder the instrumental hook of this title song has been sampled many times by artists such as Naughty by Nature, Logistics, Leona Lewis, and many others. Everything about this album-music, engineering, mastering-is top-notch, making this somewhat of an audiophile release as well. This is a real hidden gem and well worth seeking out!

Clarinettist and bandleader Benny Goodman was one of the giants of the swing era, with his orchestra pioneering the genre in the late '30s and riding the big band wave through into the post-ear era. However, he also greatly enjoyed playing in more flexible small jazz groups, where his superb technique had more of a chance to shine. This great-value 70-track 3-CD set brings together a significant proportion, but excluding vocal performances, of the titles he recorded in Trio, Quartet, Quintet, Sextet and Septet environments the heyday of his swing orchestra, often recording with artists drawn from the current incarnation of his bands. It comprises recordings on the Victor, Columbia and Okeh labels, and not surprisingly features a host of significant jazz personalities, including Teddy Wilson, Gene Krupa, Lionel Hampton, Charlie Christian, Cootie Williams, Count Basie, Red Norvo, Slam Stewart, John Kirby, Fletcher Henderson, Johnny Guarnieri, Georgie Auld and many more. It's a thoroughly enjoyable anthology of small band jazz that defies being categorised, ranging across both well-known standards and original compositions, and allows us to hear Benny and his colleagues swinging and improvising in some star-studded line-ups
