This Is For You, John is an album by saxophonist/composer Benny Golson, recorded at Vanguard Studio, New York City in 1983 and released the year after. For the recordings, Golson was accompanied by Pharoah Sanders on tenor sax, Cedar Walton on piano, Ron Carter on bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums. The album features tunes associated with, or inspired by the famous American Jazz saxophonist John Coltrane, including 'Times Past (This Is For You, John)'. 'Origin' is an original, composed by Pharoah Sanders. This Is For You, John is available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on green colored vinyl. The back of the sleeve contains extensive liner notes by Benny Golson, reflecting meetings with John Coltrane and the inspirations behind the songs.

The recording era of 1939 to 1941 saw Benny Goodman at perhaps his most productive, working with incredible guitarist Charlie Christian to create a jazz sextet the likes of which the genre had never seen before. Lionel Hampton, Fletcher Henderson, Count Basie and Cootie Williams flesh out the six-piece, and the combination of these titans of the genre changed jazz forever.

Benny Golson is an American bebop/hard bop jazz tenor saxophonist, composer, and arranger. He came to prominence with the big bands of Lionel Hampton and Dizzy Gillespie, more as a writer than a performer, before launching his solo career. Golson is known for co-founding and co-leading The Jazztet with trumpeter Art Farmer in 1959. From the late 1960s through the 1970s Golson was in demand as an arranger for film and television and thus was less active as a performer, but he and Farmer re-formed the Jazztet in 1982.

Benny Golson - "Gone With Golson (Original Jazz Classics Series)". Gone With Golson was originally released in 1959 and is saxophonist Benny Golson's fifth album. A great example of the hard-bop genre, the album includes four Golson compositions, plus "Staccato Swing" by Ray Bryant, who plays on the album, and the jazz standard "Autumn Leaves." This new edition of the album is released as part of the Original Jazz Classics Series on 180-gram vinyl pressed at RTI with all-analog mastering from the original tapes at Cohearent Audio and a Stoughton Tip-On Jacket.
