Nine time Grammy award winner Norah Jones returns to the piano and her roots on her sixth solo album Day Breaks, a kindred spirit to her multi-platinum breakthrough Come Away With Me. Features legendary jazz musicians saxophonist Wayne Shorter, organist Dr. Lonnie Smith, and drummer Brian Blade. "This new album feels full circle because I'm going back to my early influences," says Jones. "After the first record, I drifted away from the piano a little bit. I still played it, but was more inspired to write on guitar. I really loved playing piano on this record." With the help of co-producer Eli Wolf, Jones enlisted renown jazz musicians such as drummer Blade, organist Smith and saxophonist Shorter for recording the album. Blade previously worked with Jones on her debut, Come Away with Me. Having just had a baby and a piano in her kitchen, Jones wrote much of the album during late-night sessions at the piano while drawing influence from a wide range of jazz music. There are three cover songs on Day Breaks: "Peace", originally performed by Horace Silver, "Fleurette Africaine (African Flower)", originally performed by Duke Ellington and "Don't Be Denied", originally performed by Neil Young.

Classic: Live At Newport captures the quartet's entire 6-song set, which opened with the swaggering Lovano blues "Big Ben" and featured songs drawn from the band's studio albums including 2 songs written by Hank's brother Thad Jones ("Don't Ever Leave Me" and "Kids Are Pretty People") before closing with a rollicking performance of Oliver Nelson's "Six and Four" to wild applause.

At the Half Note Cafe is a live album by American trumpeter Donald Byrd recorded in 1960 at the Half Note in Manhattan and released on the Blue Note label originally as two single LP issues. Vinyl LP repressing of this jazz classic. A Blue Note essential, Search For The New Land is part of the Blue Note 75 anniversary vinyl reissue campaign. Search for the New Land was an album by jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan. A hard bop set with a group of well-known jazz musicians, Search for the New Land was recorded before The Sidewinder was released and is considered more abstract than it's popular predecessor. Although it was recorded in 1964, the album was shelved for two years, then issued with the original catalogue number. It is described by jazz commentator Scott Yanow as "one of the finest Lee Morgan records". The album reached #16 on Billboard's "Black Albums" chart and #143 on "Pop Albums".

Double vinyl LP pressing. 2015 album from the jazz artist. Ten years after making his Blue Note debut and following two Grammy-winning volumes of his R&B-oriented Black Radio albums, Robert Glasper returns to his acclaimed acoustic jazz trio for his album, Covered (The Robert Glasper Trio recorded live at Capitol Studios). The album consists mainly of covers, including Glasper's favorite songs by Radiohead, Joni Mitchell, Jhene Aiko, John Legend, Kendrick Lamar and others, as well as several Glasper originals.

Vinyl LP repressing of this jazz classic. Components was an album by jazz vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, released on the Blue Note label in 1965. The first side of the LP features compositions by Hutcherson, in a hard bop style, whilst the second side features Joe Chambers' compositions, more in the avant-garde style. Hutcherson describes "Tranquillity" as "so tranquil as to almost suggest no time at all." "Little B's Poem" was written for Bobby's son, Barry, three years old at the time. "West 22nd Street Theme", which closes side one, is a reference to a Manhattan section near the 10th Ave, Chelsea, where Hutcherson lived for a while. Side two features Chambers originals. "Movement" is "like a six-part theme constantly in motion, held together by a pulse." About "Air", Chambers says: "Once that's set, they all jump into free counterpoint. As in all the pieces, each voice has to remain independent but in relationship to what's going on around him." "Pastoral" signifies a comeback to a kind of primitive setting, "as if to say to the listener 'This is what we come back to - the familiar, the beginning'."

SPONTANEOUS INVENTIONS, a 1986 live album by American vocalist Bobby McFerrin is reissued as part of an overall Blue Note 75th anniversary vinyl initiative spearheaded by current Blue Note Records President, Don Was. This album features special guests Robin Williams and Herbie Hancock. SPONTANEOUS INVENTIONS reached #2 on the Top Contemporary Jazz Album chart.

Alto saxophonist Lou Donaldson scored a hit with "Alligator Bogaloo," the jaunty and memorable lead cut and title track of his 1967 soul jazz classic, but the album brims with funky grooves from start to finish with the breezy "Aw Shucks," rollicking "Rev. Moses," and the sinuous minimalism of "One Cylinder." Alligator Bogaloo marked the beginning of a fruitful and long-running collaboration between Lou and organ master Dr. Lonnie Smith, with the stellar band.

Grant Green's 1962 album Born To Be Blue featuring Ike Quebec is often thought of as the sister album to Quebec's classic Blue and Sentimental, which was recorded for Blue Note just three months prior and also showcased the deep chemistry between the soulful guitarist and tenor saxophonist. Quebec's deep, soul-drenched tenor sound matches beautifully with hard bop masters Green and pianist Sonny Clark, along with the tried-and-true rhythm section team of Sam Jones and Louis Hayes.

Recorded in 1963, Una Mas was the first album to feature the dynamic frontline of trumpeter Kenny Dorham and tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, a potent team that would go on to collaborate on numerous classic albums under each musician's name including Henderson's debut album Page One which was recorded just 2 months later. Along with a tremendous rhythm section of Herbie Hancock, Butch Warren, and Tony Williams, the quintet delivers joyous performances of three Dorham originals.

Vinyl LP pressing. Trumpeter Donald Byrd and baritone saxophonist Pepper Adams had a formidable partnership throughout the early 1960s, making a series of highly regarded hard bop albums. Yet somehow this masterful quintet session from April 1961 (which also features Herbie Hancock, sounding exceptionally fine on his very first Blue Note recording session) remained unreleased for nearly 20 years. Of particular note are Herbie's playing on "Great God" and the sophisticated excellence the entire ensemble brings.

Drummer Art Blakey recorded Indestructible-his final album for Blue Note-in 1964 with a powerful sextet line-up of The Jazz Messengers featuring Wayne Shorter (tenor saxophone), Lee Morgan (trumpet), Curtis Fuller (trombone), Cedar Walton (piano), and Reggie Workman (bass). The LP presented five compelling original compositions by Fuller ("The Egyptian" & "Sortie"), Morgan ("Calling Miss Khadija"), Walton ("When Love Is New"), and Shorter ("Mr. Jin"), and was adorned with one of Reid Miles' most memorable album cover designs.

2019 release. A unique and powerful collaboration between the artist and poet Danny Simmons and legendary jazz bassist Ron Carter. This live recording from BRIC House in Brooklyn captured Simmons reading poetry from his collection of prose The Brown Beatnik Tomes with projections of his own striking Abstract Expressionist paintings providing the stage backdrop while Carter performed solo accompaniment along with instrumental interludes from his fleet trio.
