Robert Schumann is most known for his piano works, which comprised his first 23 opus numbers. His chamber music, however, is just as special. Although his chamber works are more strict and have a more defined structure than his piano music, it is still intimate in its expression and full of imagination. Schumann’s three piano trios and three string quartets are featured here, alongside his Fantasiestucke Op. 88. These often undervalued works are truly masterpieces in the genre. Quartetto Savinio has been hailed as “The only worthy heir of the Quartetto Italiano” by l’Unita. The Italian string quartet performs here alongside pianist Matteo Fossi.
