Canadian born, Columbian raised, pianist and vocalist Luis Giraldo delivers his first album for Cellar Music. 'Ready, Willing & Able' is a Doris Day tribute album, recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's studio in NJ, with a stellar line up of musicians including Ben Paterson, Ed Cherry and Ed Tiemann. The project reworks compositions by some of the worlds most beloved songwriters.

Cory Weeds & Champian Fulton - Every Now And Then (live At Ocl Studios) - Cory Weeds and Champian Fulton travelled to OCL Studios in Calgary to record a new live, duo album in front of a rapt audience. In February of 2023 close friends, Cory Weeds and Champian Fulton traveled to OCL Studios just outside Calgary to record a new live, duo album in front of a rapt audience. Their special bond was evident as pianist and vocalist Fulton delivered sophisticated, swinging turns across a set of beautiful tunes, in conversation with Weeds at his expressive best.

TIME HAS CHANGED

Uring the COVID pandemic that shut down Smalls and Mezzrow in NYC from March of 2020 through April of 2021, they relied exclusively on funds raised by their not-for-profit, The SmallsLIVE Foundation. It was short of miraculous, but a world-wide support network of jazz fans and musicians came together and kept them alive with donations and support. They raised more than what was needed, and these extra funds became the budget for their "SmallsLIVE Living Masters Series". This is part life-time achievement award and part recording document. The idea is to document the work of older artists that have had a lifetime in jazz music and a connection to their clubs. Sheila Jordan, along with her bandmates Alan Broadbent and Harvie S, is not just short of miraculous but actually miraculous. At age 93, she delivers a vociferous performance of standards and bebop. She literally glows with the resonant age of her accomplishments and associations. She prides herself on her friendship with Charlie Parker and speaks often of him. She has the core vibration of the true Detroit sound and hails from the very greatest period of that music. Her fellow Detroiters, such as Barry Harris, Hank Jones, Tommy Flannagan and others have all but left us but she is still here and still vibrant. Sheila still has that vibe and that deep warmth that only a mature spirits can communicate and share. People respond to Sheila with love and gratitude and bask in her modest yet authoritative demeanor. It is a great privilege for Cellar Music Group to present Sheila Jordan - Live Mezzrow - in partnership with the SmallsLIVE Living Masters Series. She's in an element that she knows best (a crowded and intimate club) and is with musicians she trusts the most. We hope this document can provide you an insight into her work and her depth. Sheila Jordan is the debut of our SmallsLIVE Living Master's Series and we can't think of a better representative.

Drawing from jazz standards, rock hits & pop classics, Angela Wrigley & her Trio havecreated a body of work that intricately describes the story of love and loss, hope and longing, andwhat it means to deeply and truly be "in love." Angela's own compositions describe these feelingswith poignant accuracy.

Sienna Dahlen & Bill Coon - Balladextrous "Se balader": a French verb meaning to stroll, wander or roam. In other words, a slow and easy movement through time. Musically-speaking, this is what Sienna Dahlen and Bill Coon set out to experience in early January of 2020 under a misty evening sky in Vancouver, BC. There was really no end goal, only the moment to honour, as living in a jazz ballad means remaining open and vulnerable while navigating silence and shaping time. We strive to sink into the soul of the story, reacting in the ways that the music needs us to do so. We listen and we follow through accordingly. Lovers of the music that was made by people like Ed Bickert and Shirley Horn, (both masters of ultra-relaxed, soulful playing and vocalizing), Dahlen and Coon also feel most at home when residing in the realms of spacious spontaneity. The tempos and vibes on this album run the gamut of sometimes unpredictably minimal and quirky, sometimes "dirgy", sometimes ballroom dance-ballad, sometimes rubato etc. (with the exception of the last song on the record which was included as a sort of tongue-in-cheek clin d'oeil as if to say "yes, we like up-tempos too"!) Each of the tunes on the album,(many well-known and others not as much), has resided in Dahlen and Coon's respective repertoires for decades. "Balladextrous" is a guaranteed mood-setter. It goes down well with a bottle of red shared among loved ones, a hot soak in a bubble bath or, perhaps a long and luxurious drive to the beach to catch the last rays of the sun.
