This album features three superb contemporary trios for horn, violin, and piano. The Advenio Trio, consisting of Bruce Atwell, horn, Yuliya Smead, violin, and Eli Kalman, piano, is one of the finest horn, violin and piano trios performing today. Bruce Atwell is currently Professor of Horn at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. He is Principal Horn with the Fox Valley Symphony and a member of the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra. Prior to his work in Wisconsin, Dr. Atwell held positions with the Florida Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic. Dr. Atwell has also performed with the Milwaukee Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, and as acting Fourth Horn with the Philadelphia Orchestra. His recording Baroque Music for Horn and Strings with the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic is also available on the Centaur Label.

These works by Johannes Brahms certainly need no introduction, as they are recognized as being among the greatest of all clarinet works. These are superb performances on historical instruments. Marie Ross is one of the most innovative leaders of the next generation of early music performers. She frequently performs with superstars like Cecilia Bartoli and Lawrence Brownlee in the world's most famous theaters, Th��tre des Champs-�lys�es and Th��tre du Ch�telet in Paris, Theater an der Wien in Vienna, and the Berliner Philharmonie, to name a few. She is the Associate Principal Clarinetist with the French orchestra, Ensemble Matheus (Jean-Christophe Spinosi) where she performs everything from Mozart on the 5-key classical clarinet to premieres of contemporary works by composers like Guillaume Connesson on the modern clarinet. She can be heard chatting about her performing experiences, with colleagues and artists of various disciplines, and about other topics like her historical clarinet collection on her podcast, Fidelio.

This new release takes much recorded idea (Mozart’s Sonatas) and presents it in a whole new way. Three of these Sonatas by Mozart were arranged for Flute & Piano by Ludwig Wenzel Lachnith (1748-1820). The fourth is a a sonata by Mozart arranged for flute and piano by Yoav Talmi. These works all work beautifully in this form. Flutist Erella Talmi was born in 1942 in Tiberias, Israel. She received her diploma in Flute performance from the Juilliard School of Music in New York. She has performed in many high-profile orchestras, including the Louisville Orchestra, the Kentucky Opera Louisville, and the Israel Chamber Orchestra, Tel Aviv. Since 1992 she has served as the music director for the “Tones and Colors” series in Tel Aviv. She is the wife of Yoav Talmi, who has arranged the fourth Sonata on this release.

This new release is a great program of works for chamber ensembles from the mid 20th Century, performed by violinist Shandy Phillips, clarinetist Sheri Falcone, bassoonist Denise Rowan, and pianist Rosangela Sebba. Works from Shandy Phillips, Bill Douglas, and Igor Stravinsky are featured- all monumental composers in their own right. All of the performing artists are members of the faculty of the Mississippi State University Department of Music.

Steve Roens holds many accolades and honors, he currently teaches at the University of Utah as a Composition Professor. As a teacher of composition, while his background and practice are informed by the literature of atonal music, Roens attempts to help students find their own voices and originality in whatever direction their stylistic predilections evolve. Hailed by the New York Times as "spectacular and elegant", pianist Angela Draghicescu has quickly established a reputation as a much sought-after collaborative artist and chamber musician. She performs regularly in major centers throughout the world with many of this generation's most renowned musicians. Recent engagements have included performances at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Benaroya Hall, Rudolfinum Prague, George Enescu Philharmonic, Suntory Hall, Hindemith Institute, as well as many other venues in Europe, the US, and Asia.

Two great romantic piano concertos are performedon this new release- one by Brahms, and one by Rubenstein. The works beautifully complement one another, and are brought to life by pianist David Glen Hatch. Internationally concert and recording artist and master teacher of piano, David Glen Hatch enjoys a distinguished career as a soloist and guest artist with symphony orchestras on six continents. Dr. Hatch completed the BMU degree from Brigham Young University where he received the Outstanding Pianist Award and the MM and DMA degrees summa cum laude at the Conservatory of Music, University of Missouri-Kansas City where he received the Outstanding Graduate Pianist Award. He has recorded a wide variety of repertoire on thirty compact discs for several labels. In addition to being an award winner in numerous state, regional, national, and international competitions including the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, Dr. Hatch is a frequent competition juror and clinician.

The Argot Trio is made up of clarinetist Jonathan Holden, violinist Caroline Holden, and pianist Lois Leventhal. The ensemble is a proponent of new chamber music, and the group has yielded notable fundraising success and the commissioning of several new trios to be included on this new release, Made in Mississippi, featuring works inspired by the birthplace of America’s music. Contributing composers include Luigi Zaninelli, Michael Burns, Alan Theisen and James Sclater. The Argot Trio’s recording of a new work by Steven Holochwost was released in 2013 and received outstanding reviews.

Daniel Kessner has written more than 135, 28 of which have been issued on recordings. His works have received more than 800 performances worldwide and continue to be performed annually. Kessner currently resides as Emeritus Professor of Music at California State University, Northridge.

During the mid-19th Century there was a debate as to who would in effect be the next Paganini. This album includes works by some of the major contenders, as well as Edson Scheid's own arrangement of Mozart's Rondo from Duo in G Major for violin and viola, KV 423. Edson Scheid has been praised for his "polished playing" (The Strad), for being "more than equipped to deal with the virtuosic challenges" (Seen and Heard International), for being "clearly gifted" (The New York Times), and "both musically and technically one of the most assured and accomplished of today's younger period violinists" (The Boston Musical Intelligencer). His performance of Strauss's song Morgen at Carnegie Hall alongside Joyce DiDonato and Il Pomo d'Oro was described as follows: "The concertmaster, Edson Scheid, proved a worthy foil as violin soloist" (The New York Times). A native of Brazil, Edson Scheid is based in New York City and frequently performs with such ensembles as Les Arts Florissants (France), Il Pomo d'Oro (Italy), the Trinity Baroque Orchestra, Juilliard415, NOVUS NY, New York Baroque Incorporated, the Aston Magna Music Festival, the Clarion Orchestra, and the American Baroque Orchestra, an ensemble for which he serves as concertmaster.

Russian born Violinist Artur Kaganovskiy is one of the greatest violinists of his generation. Born in Moscow, Russia, in 1986, Artur Kaganovskiy started playing the violin at age three and, with guidance from the famed Isaac Stern, he quickly established himself as a leading personality in the violin world. Winner of the Waldo de Mayo International Violin Competition and recipient of the prestigious Fritz Kreisler, H. Gilbert and Joseph Fuchs Awards, Mr. Kaganovskiy is a graduate of The Juilliard School from where he holds a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Violin Performance. On his present release, he presents concertos by Brahms and Tchaikovsky. These are performances that are infused with great passion and warmth.

Recorded for the Centaur label in 2013, Currents: Assorted Pieces or Percussion, Wind and Voice features both the playing and the compositions of Gene Koshinski and Justin Henry Rubin. Mr. Koshinski serves as Assoc. Prof. Of Percussion at the University of MN, Duluth and is well known for his extraordinary versatility as a solo, chamber, symphonic, jazz, pop, and world music artist.

The Musical Approach here involves balanced super-imposition of both premeditated electronic compositions with spontaneous composition. (Karlton Hester) These are chamber works in scope, performed with conventional instruments and synthesizers. Karlton E. Hester, Ph.D. (composer/flutist/saxophonist), began his career as a composer and recording artist in Los Angeles where he worked as a studio musician and music educator. He received his Ph.D. in composition from the City University of New York Graduate Center and is currently Director of "Jazz" Studies at the University of California in Santa Cruz. As performer on both flute and saxophone, he is music director of the Fillmore Jazz Preservation Big Band and Hesterian Musicism. Hester is currently music director of Hesterian Musicism, founding director of the Fillmore Jazz Preservation Big Band in San Francisco and served as the Herbert Gussman Director of Jazz Studies at Cornell University from 1991-2001. His formal study included Harry Nelsova and Paul Renzi on flute, Joe Henderson and John Handy in "jazz" improvisation, composition with Bruce Saylor and Robert Starrer, as well as studies with Frank Chase and Bill Tremble on saxophone.
