This selection of Posthumous Songs covers the period 1889-1909, with one song from 1933. Here one senses Zemlinsky's earliest development and years of musical study, as he tests his skills on some of the finest German poets. That he was fully up to the task is immediately evident upon listening. The American baritone, Steven Kimbrough, studied at the University of Birmingham, Alabama, and at Princeton Theological Seminary (graduated in 1962). He had further studies in Italy. Kimbrough is well known as a recital and concert singer through many appearances at New York's Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, and with symphonies in the USA and abroad. He is the foremost interpreter of the "turn-of-the-century" school of Viennese composers (most of whom were effaced by Hitler's Third Reich), as is demonstrated by his many highly praised recordings. He has presented in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and elsewhere a recital of their songs under the title "Forbidden Composers."

Born in Chicago in 1943, composer Julian Harvey has written works that are immediately appealing. Julian Harvey majored in music theory in college and attended law school and is licensed to practice law. After law school he spent three years in the Army as a clarinetist and pianist, receiving several awards for his compositions. Since then he has continued to study piano and composition independently. His teachers have included M. William Karlins, Robert Lombardo, and Patricia Morehead in composition and Gavin Williamson, Abraham Stokman, and Gerald Rizzer in piano and Lisa Goethe-McGinn and Susan Levitin in flute. Many of Mr. Harvey's works have received performances nationally and internationally. His “Mass in Three Languages” was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. His compositions have been published by Walton Music, Darcey Press, and Macmillan/McGraw-Hill.

This new release features works by composer David Post, performed by artists Alyssa Wang, Ruoting Li, Steven Beck, Samuel Magill, and Beth Levin. David L. Post was born in New York City and holds degrees from the University of Chicago, the New School for Social Research and Brandeis University. He started musical training early, studying ‘cello with Samuel Reiner and Charles Forbes and composition with Charles Whittenberg and later with Ralph Shapey at the University of Chicago. He pursued further study with Larry Bell and Lukas Foss. For several years, he was a participant in the Chamber Music Conference and Composers Forum of the East at Bennington College. He is a consultant and contributing music editor for Dover Publications and is also a practicing clinical psychologist. Recent honors have included several ASCAP awards and a First Prize in the New England Reed Trio Composition Competition. His music has received wide exposure on WGBH radio in Boston and WNYC in New York City and his Fourth String Quartet was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in music. His orchestral and chamber works have been played and recorded by international organizations including the Czech Radio Symphony orchestra, the Moravian Philharmonic and Salem Philharmonic, among others.

This album features great contemporary compositions for flute and piano by six composers. Sophia Tegart, flute, and Michael Seregow, piano, perform these works beautifully. Dr. Sophia Tegart has led a varied and award-winning career as a flutist, musicologist, and clinician. A popular performer, she has been soloist with the Spokane Symphony, the Washington-Idaho Symphony, Chehalem Symphony Orchestra, and the Kansas City Civic Orchestra. As a Yamaha Performing Artist, Tegart has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Competitive internationally, she was a finalist in the Mu Phi Epsilon International Competition and was quarter-finalist in the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition. A native of the Pacific Northwest, pianist Michael Seregow enjoys a multifaceted career as a performer, teacher, and recording artist. Having received national recognition both as a soloist and chamber musician through The American Prize, a national competition in the performing arts, he performs a diverse selection of repertoire from the late Renaissance through works by composers of today. An avid chamber musician, he has performed with nationally and internationally recognized artists in the United Kingdom, Mexico, Honduras, and throughout the United States.

Richard Glazier has specialized in the music of The Great American Songbook throughout his career. Here he plays a wonderful program of music from stage and screen. Glazier makes this music live and breathe a way few are able to do. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Glazier began studying piano when he was 6 years old. Glazier earned his Bachelor and Master degrees in Piano Performance from Indiana University School of Music and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the Cleveland Institute of Music. In 2007, CIM awarded him its prestigious Alumni Achievement Award for his contributions to American Popular Song. He has also won several major international piano competitions.

For the pre-Conquest Mayans, sport was religion. The ballgame concerned the role of man in the Cosmos, as well as the greater scheme of Creation and the gods. It was the only place where puny humans stood a fighting chance. The music on this release comes from Jeremy Haladyna’s Mayan Cycle. Eleven trips to the Mayan region and an investigation of more than 30 years into Precolumbian thought have indelibly marked and changed the work of this U.S.-born composer. Haladyna’s Mayan Cycle now stretches to over 30 highly distinctive pieces, including such titles as Zaquico’xol, El Llanto de Izamal, The Maya Curse Pedro de Alvarado, Pok-ta-Pok, 2012, The Oracle of 13 Sky, Copal, and the Jaguar Poems.

With Pluto's Crossing, British composer Andrew Sparrow traces the near century long odyssey. It follows on from Chiaroscuro Suite with another set of captivating pieces written to commemorate the historic fly-past of planet Pluto by NASA's New Horizons spacecraft in July 2015. Once again, the rich orchestrations and melody style capture the essence of this historic space visit. Andrew Sparrow's original compositions are beautifully recorded, melodically and sensitively interpreted by the Czech Film Orchestra. Pluto's Crossing perfectly captures the drama and quest to reach the distant world.

Carlos Pavan writes music that is immediately accessible; these are not at all pedantic modern works. The program includes works for flute/guitar; clarinet/guitar duo; guitar & chamber ensemble; flute/guitar, and guitar duo. Argentine born/Brooklyn (Park Slope) based concert guitarist & composer Carlos Pavan arrived to New York in 2000 to pursue musical studies with maestros Jorge Morel (classical guitar/composition) , Dave Smey (Brooklyn Conservatory) and Pablo Ziegler (Astor Piazzolla's pianist). Since then, he's performed at well-renowned venues such as Lincoln Center, New York City Center, New England Conservatory Jordan Hall (Boston), Brooklyn Borough Hall, Merkin Hall at Kaufman Center, Philadelphia Museum, Connecticut Festival Guitars of the world, Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture, Hudson River Museum, New England Guitar Society, Public Libraries all around USA and internationally in France, Ireland, Portugal and Japan. His second release "Suite del Interior" (original compositions for guitar and string quartet) is a blend of argentine tango/folk dances, jazz harmonies and classical forms recorded with special guest PUBLIQuartet. When not performing he offers private guitar/composition lessons and is also an instructor at Noel Pointer Foundation. At the present he is the composer/guitarist/artistic director of the Park Slope Chamber Players. This is his third album of original works.

Rebecca Rust and Friedrich Edelmann (cellist and bassoonist, respectively) have played together in duos, trios, and larger chamber music groups for over 30 years. From their home base in Germany, this husband and wife team performs in America, Europe, and Japan including radio and TV productions. As a duo or single together with piano they have recorded fourteen well-received albums. This new release is a wide-ranging yet well-integrated program of works for cello and piano, cello and bassoon, and cello, bassoon and piano together. The duo is joined by pianist Nikolai Gangnus,

Wife of Robert Schumann, Clara Wieck Schumann was a great piano virtuoso. She also was a wonderful composer of piano works. Korean-born pianist Junghwa Lee brings these works to life with vital performances. Junghwa Lee performs actively in solo recitals, chamber concerts and lecture recitals, and has frequently appeared in concerto performances as a soloist including those with the Korean Symphony Orchestra, Salina Symphony Orchestra, Hutchinson Symphony Orchestra and Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra among others. Lee has presented solo performances in Korea, Holland, France, Hungary, Romania, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Chile, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, China, the United Kingdom and the United States, including appearances at the Arts Center Concert Series at National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan, Shenyang Music Cultural Exchange Exhibition Between China and Foreign Countries Festival in China, Beethoven 32 Sonatas Recital Series in Singapore, the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series at the Chicago Cultural Center and her New York debut recital at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as a winner of Artists International’s Special Presentation Award.

Composer Joseph Levin writes music depicting a multitude of themes, including the raw currents of nature, balletic grace, the solitary soldier, and NASA's New Horizon Spacecraft. Joseph Levin writes about his compositional style and education: “Classical training in composition with Leo Edwards at the Mannes College of Music in New York City and private jazz studies with Eric Goletz and other artists are the foundation upon which my compositions are built.” As a follow up to his highly praised album Passageways, September includes works for solo piano, flute, and mixed chamber group. Esteemed musicians heard on this release include flutist Jana Flygstad, clarinetist Dennis McElroy, and pianists Gila Goldstein and Jessica L. Dorman.

This is a great program of works for piano by Chopin and Liszt. A native of Korea, Jin Ah Kwon began playing the piano at the age of five. Currently, Jin Ah is teaching at a college and completing her doctoral degree with many scholarships at the University of North Texas. She won the Concerto Competition at UNT in 2016 and performed Rachmaninoff No.1 Piano Concerto with Concerto Symphony in 2017 Feb. She also won the many international competitions including 2019 27th Chopin International Competition in the USA, the 9th London International competition, 2017 New York International Competition, and IMKA music international Competition. Most recently, she was invited and performed at Carnegie Hall and preparing for the Grand Prix concert at Sarajevo Army Hall in Bosnia.

The explosion from Beethoven's kettle drums knocked me off my parents' blanket and onto the grass. I covered a lot of ground in that short distance because from that point forward I was aware of music as a force unto itself. I had gone through a passageway and come out a different person.” (Joseph M. Levin) American composer Joseph M. Levin was born in 1958. At first he saw the works on this album as being unrelated, but upon reflection decided that the works tell an immigrant's tale. The instrumentation includes piano, flute, clarinet, bassoon, French Horn, violin, and cello.

This is Volume 3 in Centaur's cycle of the complete piano sonatas of Hummel, performed by Antonio Pompa-Baldi. This cycle is setting a very high bar for complete Hummel sonata cycles. Born and raised in Foggia, Italy, Antonio Pompa-Baldi won the Cleveland International Piano Competition in 1999 and embarked on a career that continues to extend across five continents. He also won a silver medal at the 2001 Van Cliburn Competition, as well as a bronze medal at the 1998 Marguerite Long Competition in Paris. The New York Times described his playing as “meltingly beautiful.” Pompa-Baldi founded the Todi International Music Masters Festival, of which he is artistic director and faculty member, and sits on the juries of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world.

Gary Schocker has composed some of the greatest works for flute of the past half-century. Included on this new release are his Sonatas for Flute and Piano Nos. 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9, performed by Leslie Neighbor Stroud. Leslie Neighbor Stroud, flute, received her Bachelor’s degree in Flute Performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Music where she was a student of Britton Johnson (National Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra) and Timothy Day (San Francisco Symphony Orchestra). She has also studied with Lois Schaefer (Boston Symphony Orchestra), Walfrid Kujala (Chicago Symphony Orchestra) and Mark Sparks (St. Louis Symphony Orchestra) and baroque flute with Suzanne Stumpf (Musicians of the Old Post Road), as well as participating in the master classes of Gary Schocker, Julius Baker, Bonita Boyd and William Bennett. Leslie currently performs with the Pentangle Arts Orchestra, BarnArts Festival Orchestra, Pro Musica Vermont, Guilford Music Festival Orchestra, Cameo Baroque (a period instrument ensemble), Buttonwood Wind Quintet, the Richard Faith Ensemble, and the Sterling String Quartet. She has performed with New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, The Plymouth Philharmonic, New Bedford Festival Theater, the Tri-County Symphonic Band, the Buzzards Bay Musicfest, the Savannah Symphony Orchestra, the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, the Chicago Civic Orchestra, the Peabody Wind Quintet, the Bellemore Ensemble of Baltimore, the Mozart Festival of Alameda, and the Trinity Chamber Concerts of California.
