Among the winners of the 2024 Chanel NEXT Prize, classical music devotees might recognize an increasingly familiar name: Anna Thorvaldsdóttir. The composer's work has become a mainstay of the concert stage—and recordings—over the past decade.

The American audiophile label Sono Luminus has championed Thorvaldsdóttir's work for years, on both dedicated portrait albums and multi-composer compilations featuring the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the quartet Nordic Affect, and others. It's a perfect match of composer to label: SL's signature double-disc packs, with albums presented in both standard CD and Blu-ray audio formats, reflect the sensibility of a composer whose ear for intimate sonic detail hardly prevents her from making grand melodic statements.
