What a Night! A Christmas Album, by American singer, pianist and bandleader Harry Connick, Jr., was released on November 4, 2008, being his third Christmas album, since 1993's When My Heart Finds Christmas and 2003's Harry for the Holidays. The album consists of new recordings of Christmas classics, and new songs written by Connick. The track "Song for the Hopeful", is a duet with Kim Burrell. The song was written by Connick for the 2008 television film Living Proof. Burell is also featured on "Let There Be Peace On Earth". Connick has three daughters with his wife Jill Goodacre, and their middle daughter Sarah Kate, sings a duet with him on the track "Winter Wonderland".

A Christmas album for all seasons! Ralph Sutton is one of the greatest stride and classic jazz pianists of all time. Milt Hinton became famous for "slapping" the bass and being the most recorded jazz musician appearing on well over 1,000 sessions. Gus Johnson also appeared on many sessions playing drums behind Coleman Hawkins, Count Basie, Jay McShann, Ralph Sutton and many more. Born in Scotland in 1936 soprano saxophonist Jim Galloway is the youngest of the band (by fourteen years!) and has been active on the Canadian jazz scene since the mid '60s. This 1986 recording is one of the best-selling and most popular jazz Christmas albums. And for good reason: these musicians are truly all stars!

Gregory Porter - "Christmas Wish" / GRAMMY-winning singer-songwriter Gregory Porter's first-ever Christmas album, Christmas Wish is out November 3rd on Blue Note/Decca Records. The record is a loving tribute to his favorite time of year - and to great artists including Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Marvin Gaye, Dinah Washington, Nat King Cole and more. In addition to this list of world class names, Christmas Wish also features three original tracks including single "Everything's Not Lost."

Vinyl LP pressing. 2019 holiday EP release. Alt-country trio Puss N Boots return with a holiday EP featuring "Christmas All Over Again." Comprised of acclaimed singer/songwriter Norah Jones on guitar, singer/bassist Catherine Popper and singer/guitarist Sasha Dobson. Puss N Boots first formed in 2008 as a live band performing around Brooklyn venues. After years of live performances, the trio decided to make a full-length album which resulted in their Blue Note Records debut No Fools, No Fun.

What's not to like? Here we have one of Eugene Ormandy's classic accounts of the Nutcracker Suite, followed by a transcription for the Modern Mandolin Quartet that sounds surprisingly attractive, all things considered. Then the fun really starts with Spike Jones' demented take on the story, full of his trademark sound effects and madcap humor. Capping it all off are two 1940s arrangements for four pianos of the Dance of the Reed Flutes and the Waltz of the Flowers. Obviously the recording quality varies widely (even the Ormandy doesn't compare to today's best), but that's not really the point. What you get is a sort of trip down memory lane with this ever-popular music--and more to the point, the arrangements are sufficiently distinctive to justify wanting to listen to the entire disc at a sitting.
