The echoes of war are poignant and nostalgic, stirring and sorrowful, reflecting times of intense living and dying. Emma Brown and Han-Louis Meijer present music from and about the First and Second World Wars, including uplifting songs of hope and love, and songs of remembrance and loss. Emma read music at Cambridge and then moved to the Netherlands to study singing and composition at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. Her music is published by Edition HH.

This collection features songs drawn from opposite corners of England which during the 20th century experienced catastrophic decline in their traditional local industries: Cornwall now relies heavily on tourism and Tyneside has become a center for science-based technology. Traditionally, both have maintained a proud tradition of community music-making and we feature sea songs with Cornish baritone Ben Luxon and the Holman-Climax Male Voice Choir, whilst much-loved Geordie bass Owen Brannigan sings airs from Tyneside, and patriotic songs (Heart of Oak, Bay of Biscay).

Elisabeth Schilz Grummer was a German soprano. She has been described as "a singer blessed with elegant musicality, warm-hearted sincerity, and a voice of exceptional beauty" (Gregory Berg, Journal of Singing). BR Klassik presents this historical recording from the years 1956, 1960 and 1962.

This compilation presents a selection of the recordings that were the fruit of the cooperation between the conductor and the orchestra. Sawallisch's programs in Prague repeatedly included pieces by Mozart and Beethoven, as well as major works by Czech composers (Smetana, Janacek, Martinu, Kalabis, Eben, etc.). Sawallisch's relationship to Czech music is probably best described by the following quotation from a contemporary review: 'He apprehends and interprets music by Czech composers as though he himself had been brought up in their language.' the precious Czech Radio live recordings are released by Supraphon for the very first time to mark the 90th anniversary of the late conductor's birth.

There is an amazing abundance of great songs from Finland, Sweden and Norway. This album features a collection of these works, composed over a span ranging from the second half of the 19th century to 1960. Soprano Mimmi Fulmer has made a specialty of this repertoire.

Soprano Kyoung Cho is a teacher and singer of international recognition. Music critics praised her performances as "Sublimely beautiful, transcendent, serene, dazzling, and heavenly". Dr. Cho holds degrees from Yonsei University, Manhattan School of Music, University of Memphis, Yale University and Israel International Vocal Institute.

The spotlight is on Argentinean native Tomas Cotik in this program of works for solo violin by Telemann, Bach, Schubert and fellow countryman Astor Piazzolla. Mr. Cotik, whose studies began in Argentina, continued his educational pursuits in Germany, Canada and finally the US where he earned his Doctorate at the University of Miami. Alongside his recording and teaching obligations, Mr. Cotik and frequent duo partner pianist Tao Lin received critical acclaim for their Schubert: Complete Works for Violin and Piano, V.1 release, including a Recording of the Year nomination from MusicWeb Int'l.

Ondine continues its long-term collaboration with Einojuhani Rautavaara, the Latvian Radio Choir, and Sigvards Klava by presenting the world premiere recording of Rautavaara’s Missa a cappella. Being praised by Gramophone as an outstanding body of singers, the Latvian Radio Choir is one of the top chamber choirs in Europe. This is the choir’s follow-up disc to their highly successful recording of Rachmaninov's All-Night Vigil.
