The second CD from the Patriarch Choir of the Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Moscow is devoted to Russian sacred music which was composed after the 1917 revolution. During this time, most churches and monasteries were shut down, and ecclesiastical life was always under the threat of punishment. Therefore, most of these works were composed in secret, and many were not premiered until years after their composition. Today, the Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Moscow is the seat of the Russian Orthodox patriarch Kyrill and the national symbol of the reinvigorated Russian Church.
