Schubert, Mendelssohn: Piano Trios / Voces Intimae
The intent of Voces Intimae is to restore the music to its original transparency, to try to make evident the original intentions of the composers through sound and phrasing, and bring to light the history that is tied to the piece. The choice of the name, Voces Intimae, confirms the group's aim to enhance the more subtle aspects of the repertoire without being obliged to sound like a "round of artillerary", but rather to show the rhythm of horse trot and the favouring of the more subtle undertones, the understated, and the veins of melancholy, all aspects that during the 20th century were often deserted. Voces Intimae has appeared in such halls as the Wigmore Hall and St. John's Smith Square in London, Library of Congress of Washington D.C., Frick Collection of New York, Da Camera Society of Los Angeles, Oberlin College of Oberlin (Ohio), the Oude Muziek Festival in The Netherlands, the Vredenburg in Utrecht, deSingel in Antwerp, the Festival Classique in The Hague, Festival dei due Mondi of Spoleto, Amici della Musica of Florence, Unione Musicale of Turin, and Bologna Festival. Voces Intimae has recently signed a new contract with Challenge Classics. The first release is the premiere worldwide recording on period instruments of the Robert Schumann piano trios op.63 & 110. The of the piano trios of Franz Schubert and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy were formerly available from the Symphonia label.
