Helmut Walcha’s legendary Bach recording from the 1950s for Archiv made the Cappel organ world- famous. Erich Thienhaus, the founding father of Detmold’s school of musically and technically well- versed sound engineers and thus a legend in his own right, was the recording director. After many years on the recording sidelines (the installation of a heating unit caused technical problems) the famous Schnitger organ is now once again in the best condition. Harald Vogel and the MDG team have seized the opportunity to present this instrument in the latest, most finely balanced 2+2+2 recording technique on a Super Audio CD featuring early works by Bach. Its high point is formed by what is probably the most famous organ work of all times: the Toccata in D minor.

Harald Vogel is number one when it comes to Northern German music. He is in international demand not only as an organist and a teacher but also as an expert in matters of organ design. With the Organeum in Weener he has made the Frisian organ landscape familiar to a broad public beyond expert circles. And his recording of the complete organ works of Dietrich Buxtehude on original instruments set international standards.
