MOZART: Piano Concertos Nos. 21 and 23 / Rondo in D major

In 1791, in a suburb of Vienna, Mozart created his Singspiel Die Zauberfl�te. The libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder, who also directed it in his theatre, wanted to reach out to the popular audience in German. Thanks to the dramatic and dreamlike qualities of the work, and Mozart's brilliant music, it exceeded one hundred performances in one year and it's success became universal. But in order to win over all audiences, it's trump card was to speak to the audience in their own language - and not in Italian like the court opera. This is what this production offers, in an entirely French version, staged by C�cile Roussat and Julien Lubek and conducted by Herv� Niquet with a sparkling team: Mozart's work suddenly takes on the tone of the Op�ra-Comique � la fran�aise. And thus, to go it even more strength, we have now the Magic Flute in French!

World premiere recording in the DXD resolution! With this recording, 2L presents a fresh version of the most elegant violin concertos in the history of music. While respecting the origin and tradition of this music, we have sought a new and dynamic musical experience rooted in our present time.

After composing his three last symphonies in as many months in the summer of 1788, Mozart started out on another mammoth project - a trio for strings of truly symphonic proportions. This visionary work with it's somewhat unpretentious title "Divertimento in E flat major" revealed itself to be the quintessence of everything Mozart stood for as composer, craftsman and dramaturge. With it's six movements, a playing time of around 50 minutes and the grandeur of it's musical lines it puts all earlier chamber music compositions in the shade. Mozart biographer Alfred Einstein writes: "it is a true chamber-music�work and�grew to such large proportions only because it was intended to offer... something special in the way of art, invention, and good spirits... one of his noblest works."

This production of Mozart’s famous opera Le Nozze di Figaro comes from the China National Centre for the Performing Arts. This production sheds new light on this 1786 masterpiece, by combining the traditional Western elements of the work with an exceptional Chinese cast. Jose Luis Castro serves as stage director, and is from Seville, where the story takes place. With close ties to this story’s origin, he beautifully embeds the plot into his hometown. Lu Jia conducts the orchestra and chorus, and interprets the music in a fresh and contemporary style which lays the ground for the outstanding soloists. As a bonus, the film “The making of Le Nozze di Figaro,” is also included.

Sarah Willis is a tireless ambassador for her instrument, the French horn, which she champions around the world. A horn player with the famous Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra since 2001, she launched what was soon to become a famous TV programme, 'Sarah's Music,' for Deutsche Welle in 2014, interviewing personalities ranging from Gustavo Dudamel to Wynton Marsalis. The award-winning programme presents music with warmth and in all it's diversity. Sarah's other passion as born when she arrived in Cuba to give a horn masterclass. The music and the musicians she met there had a huge impact on her. Since then she has returned regularly and founded the Havana Horns, an ensemble of Cuban horn players who were featured in a 'Sarah's Music' episode. With 'Mozart y Mambo,' Sarah has created an album combining the music of one of the most famous classical music composers, W.A. Mozart and traditional Cuban music. "Mozart would have been a good Cuban" she was told in Havana, and this is what inspired her to create this project. With the Havana Lyceum Orchestra and it's exuberant conductor Jose Antonio Mendez Padron, she presents works for French horn and orchestra by W. A. Mozart (the Concerto No. 3 K. 447 and the Concert Rondo K. 371) alongside a 'Rondo alla Mambo' (inspired by the Concerto No. 3 K. 447) a 'Sarahnade Mambo,' a Cuban 'Eine Kleine Nachtmusik,' and other treats. A number of well-known local musicians take part in this recording, which also pays tribute to Cuban repertoire with two songs including 'Dos Gardenias,' made famous by Ibrahim Ferrer and the Buena Vista Social Club.
