LEAVIN TOWN is the debut album from Flamekeeper the new band founded by five-time IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year Michael Cleveland and featuring John Mark Batchelor on banjo, mandolin player Jesse Brock (Lynn Morris Band), guitarist and vocalist Todd Rake straw (Union Station, Timberline Drive), and bassist and vocalist Marshall Wilborn (Lynn Morris Band, Johnson Mountain Boys, Longview). The jaw-dropping intensity of Flamekeepers live performances have already made them a favorite on the bluegrass circuit, and Leaving Town is filled with hard driving instrumental and vocal music that fans the sparks struck by bluegrass's first generation into a bold new flame.

This release continues the series of 4-CD sets which comprises selected annual collections of the biggest US country hits of each year. This great-value 110-track collection covers the year of 1962, during which time Billboard published a Top 30 which changed it's name during the year from Hot C&W Sides to Hot Country Singles, and it comprises every record which appeared in the Top 15 of that chart during the year. Despite the fact that the pop landscape had been transformed over preceding years by rock 'n' roll and it's aftermath, and was about to undergo another upheaval with the British Invasion, the charts still had a familiar look about them for country fans, with many traditional established country stars well-represented, like Webb Pierce, Porter Wagoner, Kitty Wells and Hank Snow, although the smoother Nashville sound certainly characterised many of the hits and there was more than a smattering of crossover artists who enjoyed big crossover hits, not least Leroy Van Dyke's long-running No. 1 "Walk On By". Other big winners during the year with multiple hits were George Jones, Patsy Cline, Marty Robbins, Jimmy Dean, Jim Reeves, and there were some hot new kids on the block like Buck Owens, Willie Nelson and Johnny Tillotson, along with some collectable obscurities among the one-hit wonders. It's a fascinating and entertaining musical snapshot of the country scene during a dynamic era, and with an in-depth 12,000+ word booklet with background notes on every record, it gives a solid overview of the most popular country music of the yea

This release continues the series which we re-established last year with a 4-CD set of "The Greatest Country Hits of 1958" and which comprises selected annual collections of the biggest US country hits of each year. This great-value 116-track collection follows on from that 1958 anthology, and includes every record that appeared in the Top 20 of the Billboard country charts during 1959, excluding those records which had already made the Top 20 and which therefore appeared in the 1958 set (there was insufficient space to include them again in this collection). The country chart had been rationalised in October 1958 into a single "Hot C&W Sides" Top 30 listing. With the new format and research basis, there are fewer pop and rock 'n' roll records featured in the country charts this year, and it provides a platform for the top country artists of the day, as well as a number of more obscure tracks which have not been widely available on CD. With an in-depth 10-000+ word booklet with background notes on every record, it gives a solid overview of the most popular country music of the year.

This release continues the series which we re-established a couple of years ago and which comprises selected annual collections of the biggest US country hits of each year. This great value100-track 4-CD collection goes back to the start of the 1950s, when the relevant Billboard chart was called the Best Selling Retail Folk (Country & Western) Records, and apart from a few weeks at the start of the year, when there was a Top 15, was restricted to a published Top 10. The collection comprises many of the records which appeared in the chart during the year. Although there were many records which harked back to the styles of traditional hillbilly and western swing music, many of the artists featured were those who had established themselves during the late 1940s and would enjoy prolific hit-making careers during the '50s until the business changed significantly in the wake of the rock 'n' roll explosion. Artists like Hank Williams, Eddy Arnold, Red Foley, Ernest Tubb and Tennessee Ernie Ford are therefore well represented along with many artists whose musical legacy is less well-known these days, as well as pop artists like Margaret Whiting and Kay Starr making forays into the genre through duets with country stars, which makes it a fascinating snapshot of the business as a new decade dawned. With an in-depth 10,000+ word booklet with background notes on every record, it gives a solid overview of the most popular country music of the year.
20 Best of Swamp Pop from Louisiana

Feb 24, 2017
Swamp Pop is indigenous to the Acadiana region of South Louisiana as well as from the Beaumont/ Port Arthur area of neighboring East Texas. It is marked by highly emotional, ultra-romantic, plaintive style vocals. The simple, unaffected and often bilingual lyrics are backed by a honky-tonk piano, bellowing sax sections and a strong R&B backbeat. Upbeat pieces often possess the bouncy rhythms of Cajun and black Creole two-steps, and their lyrics frequently convey the local color and joie de vivre spirit pervading South Louisiana. Slow melancholic ballads with their undulating bass line and dramatic breaks exhibit the heart-broken ‘what’s-the-use-of-living’ laments common to many Cajun and black Creole compositions. The genre appeared during the mid-to late 1950s, its heyday lasting until the early 1980s.

This release continues the series of 4-CD sets which comprises selected annual collections of the biggest US country hits of each year, and fills in a gap in the series at the start of the 1960s. This great-value 114-track collection covers the year of 1960, during which time Billboard published a country Top 30 called Hot C&W Sides, and it comprises every record which peaked in the top 25 places in that chart during the year, excluding a few records which are unavailable for copyright reasons. Despite the fact that the pop landscape had been transformed over the preceding years by rock 'n' roll and it's aftermath, and with the new decade the British Invasion was only two or three years away, the charts still had a familiar look about them for country fans, with many traditional established country stars well-represented, like Ernest Tubb, Webb Pierce, Hank Snow, Hank Thompson, Kitty Wells and Ray Price, although the smoother Nashville sound certainly characterised many of the hits, especially from artists like Jim Reeves, Marty Robbins, Hank Locklin, Don Gibson, and Faron Young. There were also some hot new kids on the block like Buck Owens, Roy Drusky, and Jimmy Dean, along with some highly collectable obscurities among the many one-hit wonders. It's a fascinating and entertaining musical snapshot of the country scene as it entered a new decade, and with an in-depth 12,000+ word booklet with background notes on every record, it gives a solid overview of the most popular country music of the year.

Sep 13, 2019
Released in August 2019 in conjunction with the 90th Anniversary celebration of the Johnson City sessions, 'Tell It To Me: Revisiting the Johnson City Sessions, 1928-1929' is intended to demonstrate what music historian Ed Ward meant when he tweeted 'Johnson City Sessions: Lots more fun than the Bristol Sessions. Fewer stars, more insight into a vanished world.' Intended to distill onto a single CD the groundbreaking research found on Bear Family Records' award-winning 4-CD boxed set, The Johnson City Sessions: Can You Sing or Play Old-Time Music?' (BCD 16083), released in 2013, 'Tell It To Me' offers 25 essential highlights from Columbia Records' historically significant location recording sessions in Johnson City, Tennessee, in 1928 and 1929 recording sessions in Johnson City, Tennessee, in 1928 and 1929.. Featuring 25 recordings by 25 different musical acts that were active in the late 1920s, 'Tell It To Me' presents a diverse and dynamic overview of Appalachia's vernacular music at the cusp of the Great Depression. While representing a range of genres and styles and showcasing both secular and sacred material, this album is thematically unified by the fact that all of the tracks hail from commercial location recording sessions held by Columbia Records in Johnson City, Tennessee, during successive Octobers in 1928 and 1929. With precisely 25% of the released sides from those two Johnson City recording forays, 'Tell It To Me' documents timeless performances from the 1928-1929 sessions and bolsters recent assertions by discerning aficionados of 78 RPM records that those sessions generated a particularly memorable canon of historical recordings.
