Volume 2 of the piano music of Krzysztof Meyer (b. 1943) to be released by Dux features the composer’s three later sonatas (Nos. 4-6) works that show the emergence and development of sonorism, a distinctive feature of the 1960s Polish school of composition that responded to serialism with the search for new sounds instead of systems and rules. Starting with the Fifth Sonata, Meyer’s music bears his own personal stamp. Premiered by this recording’s pianist Marek Szlezer in 2013, Sei Intermezzi is a work acknowledging a traditional, even Romantic-impressionistic sensitivity in its conception.
