Despite a short-lived career due to his untimely death at age 31, Franz Schubert left behind a great body of compositions which have been treasured by musicians for more than a century. The work featured on this release, the String Quintet in C major, was Schubert’s final chamber work. Completed just two months before the composer’s death, it is widely regarded as Schubert’s finest chamber work as well as one of the best in the entire chamber music repertoire. One of the most prominent Polish chamber ensembles, the Camerata Quartet was founded in 1984 and since then has acquired one of the largest followings of international artists and critics. They are joined here by cellist Marta Kordykiewicz.

Julia Kociuban, began studying piano at age 5, eventually studying at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. Currently a student at Universit�t Mozarteum Salzburg, Ms. Kociuban has received awards in many competitions, including the Milosz MaginInternational Piano Competition in 2005 and Les Jeudis du Piano in 2011. A recipient of several prestigious scholarships, Ms. Kociuban has been an invited performer for the Festival de la Roque d'Antheron and the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival. She can often be seen performing with her brothers in "Family Trio" and DUOKociuban.

Krzysztof Penderecki is one of the most famous and prominent living Polish composers. Symphonies have a special place in his legacy, but until now have never been recorded in a series under his artistic direction. In celebration of his 80th birthday, DUX presents the best performances of his works with the Sinfonia luventus. His great musical authority influences the young musicians' energetic and fresh sound.

Laid against the historical background, the clarinet concerto is quite exceptional: there really aren’t such works, as there are for the piano, violin or guitar composed by virtuoso master clarinetists. One has to truly love the clarinet to as little as hear of such composers as Backofen, Yost, or Bärmann. But interest in the clarinet doesn’t wane, and concerto works for this instrument continue to be written by, amongst others, Jean Francaix (1912-97) and Marek Podkowa (Orexis), here receiving its world premiere recording beside Mozart’s clarinet masterpiece.
