Printed in Rome in 1669, the fifteen pieces that make up the Concerto madrigalesco a tre voci diverse by Ercole Bernabei (1622-1687) are recorded here for the first time in their entirety. These madrigals transport us to Baroque Rome and the world of Flavio Orsini, Duke of Bracciano, to whom they are dedicated. They afford a glimpse of the tastes that prevailed at that time among the aristocratic families, who were convinced that the arts, and music in particular, reflected not only the power and fortune, but also the sensitivity and refinement of those who patronised them.

Composed in 1788 and considered works of Haydn’s full maturity as a composer, the quartets of Opus 54 immerse us in the bountiful universe of “the Father of the String Quartet”. Like with the Adagio of Op. 54 n° 2, his humanity and profundity fill us with wonder and remind us to what extent the very essence of the string quartet is exalted in this music. 2020 marked a renewal for the Psophos Quartet with the arrival of Mathilde Borsarello Herrmann, and the emergence of various projects driven by a common desire to share, transmit and give body and soul to music.

Founded in 1997 at the National Conservatory of Music in Lyon, the quartet then perfected its skills with the Ysaÿe Quartet and under the aegis of Walter Levin in Basel, enriched its knowledge. Curiosity leads the Psophos Quartet towards new artists, actors and directors. For three years, the Psophos Quartet has been in residence at the Athénée Théâtre Louis Jouvet in Paris where it produces its own series of chamber music concerts.

This release pays homage to the Franco-Belgian school of violin. In the tradition of the famous sonata by Franck, Vincent d’Indy’s sonata is associated on this album with the sonata of his disciple, the Belgian Albert Dupuis: a revelation, and a world premiere recording. The album also includes an Andante by the young d’Indy and a superb piece by Ermend-Bonnal. Éliane Reyes (June 7, 1977 in Verviers) is a Belgian pianist who is known both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. She is also currently Professor of Piano at both the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles (Royal Conservatory of Brussels, Belgium) and the Conservatoire National Supérieur, in Paris. In 2016 she was designated a Knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, by the French government. Violinist Gaëtane Prouvost studied at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Paris with Roland Charmy and Jean Hubeau. She continued her studies at the Juilliard School in New York with Ivan Galamian and Samuel Rhodes. She is one of the flagship artists of the Les Estivales en Puisaye classical music festival under the direction of Rémi Gousseau , which has been held every year since 2002 in Puisaye, in Yonne, Nièvre and Loiret.
