Violinist and composer Franz Krommer (1759-1831) spent his working life in the Austro-Hungarian locales of Vienna (mainly) or Hungary, as a court composer in the service of dukes or the Emperor Franz I from 1818, and also served as an orchestral violinist and concertmaster.Highly regarded in his time, today it’s his wind music that best bears out his former reputation. This Christophorus title, first released in 2004, pays homage to two of these works, the Concerto, Op. 35 for 2 clarinets, and the Sinfonia Concertante, Op. 80, for flute, clarinet, violin and orchestra.
