The title of this release comes from a book of letters between Ralph Vaughan Williams and Gustav Holst. “The heirs had come into their inheritance and the rebels had led a revolution of greater importance than they could guess.” Close friends, joined by a love for English music, Vaughan Williams and Holst would spend days together criticizing one another’s compositions and sharing ideas. The tracks recorded here are from Holst, Vaughan Williams, and several of their contemporaries. These recordings are remastered from recordings taken between 1922 and 1946.
