The daughter of 'Cats In The Cradle' singer Harry Chapin, Jen Chapin is a New York urban folk singer/songwriter and activist with an appetite for social justice. In 2008, accompanied solely by her husband, bassist Stephan Crump, and saxophonist Chris Cheek, she created reVisions in which she reimagined a collection of Stevie Wonder songs to offer social commentary on Barack Obama's historic rise to power. As much a testament to Chapin's unique artistic sensibility as a celebration of the enduring appeal and relevance of Wonder's songs, ReVisions, which also includes two self-penned numbers, puts a new spin on Wonder classics like 'Masterblaster (Jammin'),' 'You Haven't Done Nothin',' 'Higher Ground' and 'Village Ghetto Land.' Bolstered with new liner notes featuring a recent interview with Jen Chapin, ReVisions: The Songs Of Stevie Wonder is reissued in 2026 as part of the Chesky Original Masters series on 180g One Step Pressing Vinyl LP and SACD Hybrid Stereo.

Gabor Szabo Spellbinder (Verve Vault Series) Recorded in May 1966 at Rudy Van Gelder's Englewood Cliffs studio - Spellbinder, released in 1966 on Impulse! Records, introduced Hungarian guitarist Gabor Szabo to a wider American audience with a set that blends modal jazz, Eastern European folk influences, and 1960s pop textures. Recorded in May 1966 at Rudy Van Gelder's Englewood Cliffs studio and produced by Bob Thiele, Spellbinder features Szab in a quintet setting with pianist Chick Corea (in one of his earliest recorded sessions), bassist Albert Stinson, drummer Chico Hamilton, and percussionist Willie Bobo. The record's standout moment is a reimagining of Sonny Bono's "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)," which Szab transforms into a darkly lyrical modal meditation. Elsewhere, the group blurs the lines between jazz improvisation and global rhythms, bridging bop vocabulary with the expanding musical frontiers of the mid-1960s. The Verve Vault Series is always mastered from analog tapes and pressed on 180grAm vinyl. Mastered from analog tapes.

Four ordinary boys. A harmless prank gone awry. Their childhood innocence forever shattered, they vow to avenge it's loss in the haunting dramaSleepers. Sentenced to spend time at a reform school for their reckless behavior, four basically good boys from a bad neighborhood suffer a horrible fate while there. Forced to perform unspeakable acts by the very adults entrusted to watch over them, the young quartet barely survives the ordeal. A decade and a half later, nothing can erase the painful memories. But neighborhood justice, with a little support from a loyal priest, helps even the score. Academy Award-winners Robert de Niro and Dustin Hoffman team up with international superstars Kevin Bacon, Brad Pitt and Jason Patric, along with Academy Award-winning director Barry Levinson (Rain Man), in this compelling drama of shocking retribution. 883929842858 WHV1000858282UHD 45954955 29.17 34.99 .36 WARNER HOME VIDEO ULTRA HD MOVIE MYSTERY / SUSPENSE / THRILLER 04/21/2026 https://mediacdn.aent-m.com/prod-img/500/31/4490131-3520847.jpg 198 1 N
CARLOS,ANTONIO / YOUNGE,ADRIAN ANTONIO CARLOS & JOCAFI JID026 Antonio Carlos & Jocafi, the legendary duo from Bahia whose music has embodied the soul of Brasil for over five decades, return with a bold new collaboration: Jazz Is Dead 026. Introduced to Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad by Beto Barreto of Baiana System, the meeting was instant magic. The first time we met, it was like family," they recall. That kinship led Younge and Muhammad to invite the duo to Los Angeles, where they carried a handful of ideas and created new songs on the spot-an intuitive, improvisatory process that defines the Jazz Is Dead ethos. The story of Antonio Carlos & Jocafi begins in Salvador at the close of the 1960s, when the pair first joined forces as composers and performers. In 1971, their debut album Muita Zorra! Introduced Brasil to a sound that was both rooted in Bahia's folk traditions and attuned to the modern pulse of samba, funk, and MPB. From that record came Voc Abusou, an anthem that became one of the most recorded songs in the history of Brasilian popular music. The duo quickly distinguished themselves through their ability to channel the everyday life, humor, and struggles of Bahia into universal songs that resonated across the country and beyond. Through the 1970s and 1980s, Antnio Carlos & Jocafi wrote and recorded music that blended the sacred and the profane, Afro-Brasilian traditions and urban funk, biting satire and joyous celebration. Their compositions were picked up by some of the greatest voices of their generation: Clara Nunes, Gal Costa, Maria Creuza, and Srgio Mendes among them. They also contributed to television and cinema, writing theme songs that became part of Brasil's cultural fabric. Despite their success, they remained deeply tied to Bahia, drawing constant inspiration from Salvador's streets, the Mercado Modelo, the rhythms of candombl, and the irreverent humor of the people. Now, with Jazz Is Dead 026, Antnio Carlos & Jocafi reaffirm their creative vitality while introducing their timeless Bahian spirit to a new generation. "Adrian's love for Brasil is greater than that of many Brasilians," they say, noting how deeply he listens, studies, and channels the rhythms, stories, and feelings of their culture. The result is an album that bridges Salvador's Mercado Modelo with the global stage, weaving Bahia's folkloric traditions into Jazz Is Dead's analog soul. This collaboration stands not only as a continuation of their journey but also as a testament to the enduring power of Bahia's music-a sound that carries history, resistance, and joy in every beat. From Voc Abusou to Jazz Is Dead 026, Antnio Carlos & Jocafi remain essential voices in the evolving story of Brasilian music.

Against the tide of hip-hop, electronic dance music, and indie-rock, which dominated the airwaves of the late '90s, Dave's True Story, a Big Apple duo comprised of singer Vicky Flint and guitarist and songwriter David Cantor, flew the flag for a cool alternative: jazz-inflected hipster pop. Cantor's songs on Sex Without Bodies, the group's Chesky Records debut, are witty, cinematic, erudite, cultured, and peppered with literary references. Highlights include the finger-clicking title track - which offers a humorous slant on virtual sex - the evocative 'Ned's Big Dutch Wife,' about a woman leading a shocking double life, and an adroit, jazzy cover of Lou Reed's classic 'Walk On The Wild Side.' Bolstered with new liner notes, Sex Without Bodies is reissued in 2026 as part of the Chesky Original Masters series on 180g One Step Pressing Vinyl LP and SACD Hybrid Stereo.

Greetings from Florida: Postcards from Paradise is a new genre-blending song cycle from composer Scott Lee featuring jazz vocalist-guitarist Camila Meza. The album explores the tension between an imagined Florida and the reality experienced by those who are drawn to the state: retirees, tourists, immigrants, and nature lovers. Eight poems by Cuban American poet Carolina Hospital serve as lyrics, each reflecting a different side of Florida, from tourism and retirement to climate crisis and ecological loss. Written for Camila Meza and chamber ensemble, the music blends contemporary classical elements with jazz idioms and pop song structures. Meza's jazz/pop vocals and driving guitar glide over top of noisy, pointillistic grooves performed by a top-notch chamber ensemble of Floridian musicians who deftly execute Lee's complex scores. Together, the poems and music invite listeners to look beyond the postcard and experience Florida in all it's complexity, fragility, and beauty.

A Jazz Landmark of the Black Diaspora Reborn First released in 1971 as part of BYG Records' groundbreaking Actuel series, Jacques Coursil's Black Suite remains one of the boldest expressions of the Black Diaspora's creative and political awakening. Recorded in Paris on June 10, 1969, this visionary work now returns in a newly restored and remastered edition, revealing it's full depth and clarity for the first time in decades. Featuring a transatlantic ensemble - Jacques Coursil, Anthony Braxton, Arthur Jones, Burton Greene, Beb Gurin, and Claude Delcloo - Black Suite bridges the radical spirit of the American avant-garde and the intellectual fire of postcolonial Europe. Across two long, meditative movements, Coursil transforms jazz into a language of liberation, evoking the writings of Frantz Fanon, Lopold Sdar Senghor, and Aim Csaire as well as the fierce energy of the Civil Rights era. "Black Suite is a work of Black Excellence." - Kevin Le Gendre Born in Paris to Martiniquan parents, Coursil embodied the dialogue between African, Caribbean, and African-American identities, turning sound into philosophy and music into movement. With it's blend of intellect, emotion, and resistance, Black Suite stands alongside the seminal works of Pharoah Sanders, Eddie Gale, and Frank Lowe - timeless statements of self-definition and artistic freedom. Half a century later, Black Suite still speaks powerfully to our time: a sound of struggle and pride, of beauty and becoming - still unbroken.

Emeralds, the sophomore long player from Parlor Greens, finds the trio serving up a beautifully curated sampler of what funky organ music can be. Three true masters of their respective crafts: Tim Carman (formerly of GA-20) on drums, Jimmy James (True Loves, formerly of Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio) on guitar, and Adam Scone (Scone Cash Players, The Sugarman 3) on organ. Seasoned and soulful pros coming together to make infectiously funky instrumental jams. Parlor Greens are truly in top form: tour tight and more confident than ever in who they are and where they're going. The album's opener, "Eat Your Greens," kicks the doors off with a Charles Earland-inspired four on the floor beat, with Jimmy and Scone driving the tune down the tracks like an overloaded freight train, it simply cannot be stopped. "Lion's Mane" shows a slightly more sophisticated side of the trio, with nods to one of Scone's organ mentors, the incomparable Dr. Lonnie Smith. Not to be outdone by his bandmates, Tim Carman shows off why he plays the best shuffle this side of the Mississippi on "Letter To Brother Ben," a gospel-tinged shuffler. And while the results are stronger than ever, the mood of this second cooking session was much different. The first time these three met in Loveland at Colemine's Portage Lounge studio was marked by a certain freshness. It was new, it was the first time they had all played together. It was exciting, it was unknown territory. The session for Emeralds weighed much heavier on all three members. All three dealing with personal tragedies in their individual lives, the session truly served as a genuine moment of joy for the group. Just three talented musicians, writing and playing music now as friends in a familiar environment. No moment is the weight of the session more obvious than with the album's closer, "Queen Of My Heart," a tune Jimmy wrote for his mother shortly after she passed away. So with a heavy and soulful heart, Colemine Records is beyond proud to present the sophomore effort from three maestros. Parlor Greens presents... Emeralds

Acid Jazz Records introduces the new Jazz Sessions series, with a very special album from prolific drummer Steve White, in his first album as a leader, performing as the Steve White Trio. White is known for his long association with Paul Weller, as a member of the Style Council, playing on the hit single "Long Hot Summer" and Weller's biggest solo albums: Wildwood, Stanley Road, Heavy Soul and As Is Now. Alongside this, he continued to record in both jazz and soul settings, under names such as Trio Valore, The Groove Train and of course the Jazz Renegades - his great late '80s Hard Bop outfit that recorded an LP for Polydor, another for Acid Jazz-precursor label Re-Elect The President, and an EP for Acid Jazz. On Soul Drums, his return to Acid Jazz Records, he plays glorious tribute to his jazz roots and filmic influences, performing alongside long-time collaborator Chris Hague. The perfect album to introduce this new jazz series, with a midcentury-inspired sleeve to match. Leading with the single "Changes," the album also includes a clever reworking of the Style Council's "My Ever Changing Moods."

The result is a deeply satisfying set that demonstrates why Snidero placed in the top five of the alto saxophone category in the 2024 DownBeat Magazine International Critics Poll. Equally divided between a homage to the great Charlie Parker and three beautifully interpreted standards, this swinging trio projects a warm maturity that is further accentuated by the analog 180-gram vinyl format.

'Around the World With U' is the sophomore release by Ulysses Owens Jr. Produced by Owens for Cellar Music, 'Around the World With U' finds the Grammy Award-winning drummer, producer, and educator together again with his ensemble Generation Y. Following 2024's A New Beat, Owens and Generation y build, and in many ways move beyond their debut, aiming toward their proverbial North Star: The Jazz Messengers, Art Blakey's prodigious and ever-shifting ensemble who set a high bar in committing more than 100 albums - both live and studio productions - to tape. Although Generation y has only just begun to establish it's recording legacy, A New Beat put both the ambition and potential of Owens' ensemble on full display. And in the short time between their freshman and sophomore recordings, members of Gen y ascended to new levels. Around the World with U features Erena Terakubo on Alto Saxophone, Anthony Hervey on Trumpet and Tyler Bullock on piano (both former Juilliard students of Owens'); Yasushi Nakamura on bass, who was a student with Ulysses at Juilliard within the Inaugural first years of the jazz studies program. Lastly Nanami Haruta on trombone joins the quintet on the tunes "Road Life" and "Little Girl Power" who was a product of the Seiko Jazz Camp which was created by Ulysses Owens Jr., Takeshi Ohbayashi, and Tomoki Sassa in 2016 due to their previous relationships through the band New Century Jazz Quintet. 'Around the World with U' finds Owens' band brimming with confidence earned during long stretches of global touring. There's a new and singular synergy that's evident from the album's first notes. "Gen y now has some street credit," Owens says of the band's evident assuredness. Owens says the band was motivated to push their music forward, after two years in which the group released it's debut, toured the globe, and went viral with a cover of Nirvana's alt-rock masterpiece "Heart Shaped Box."

With "Love Is Simple," Jeremy Pelt returns to the art of balladry, distilling eight deeply felt performances into his first vinyl-only anthology and shining a light on one of the most quietly persuasive sides of his artistry. Drawn from his HighNote recordings, the set favors emotional honesty over grandstanding, pairing a few familiar titles with lesser-known gems that reward close listening. From Pelt's own disarmingly direct title track to relaxed, assured readings of songs by Rodgers & Hart, Jule Styne, Adams & Strouse, and Marian McPartland, the music unfolds with patience, grace, and a deep sense of purpose. Recorded primarily at the legendary Rudy Van Gelder Studio and featuring a heavyweight cast including George Cables, Buster Williams, Billy Hart and others, these sessions offer a rare balance of warmth and clarity, leaving plenty of room for breath, nuance, and atmosphere. Long celebrated as one of jazz's most eloquent ballad players, Pelt bares his soul here with confidence and restraint, offering a retrospective that feels timeless without ever sounding self-conscious. "Love Is Simple" marks his first appearance on LP, a format perfectly suited to music that asks you to slow down, lean in, and stay awhile.
