Fleur de Son Classics is proud to release this stunning, debut recording of virtuoso Mexican guitarist, Ricardo Saeb. The program is a playlist of masterworks for the guitar, from the Spanish folkloric mannerisms in Aguado’s “Le Fandango”, to the metrical dichotomy of “Zephyr” by American guitarist/composer, Christopher Gainey (World Premiere Recording). The pieces herein comprise a collection of contrasting and continuously enthralling guitar music. Ricardo Saeb is enjoying an international concert career and we welcome him to the Fleur de Son Classics roster of distinguished recording artists.

Hummel: Chamber Music at Schonbrunn

Former chair of the New England Conservatory piano department, the pianist and composer Victor Rosenbaum presents a collection of works written by Schubert in the last year of his life. With the omnipresent harmonic and melodic sophistication that characterized Schubert's compositions, Music From His Last Year further confirms that relative to his young age of 31, his was an astonishingly complex body of work that continues to compel and inspire us today.

Marko Topchii was born into a family of musicians. At the young age of four he began studying guitar and now, in his adulthood has won more than fifty awards in international guitar competitions. The culmination of her life's work, "Awakening" is a conceptual journey with each of its ten tracks highlighting a different musical style and influence, from African drumming to Irish folk music, with stops at rock, pop, jazz, funk, classical, Latin, reggae and gospel. Steinway Artist Rebecca Penneys is a recitalist, chamber musician, orchestral soloist, educator, and adjudicator. For over six decades she has been hailed as a pianist of prodigious talent. Rebecca has played throughout the USA, East Asia, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Western and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Canada. She possesses a daredevil technique, a charismatic stage presence, and a rare gift for interpretation. She is a popular guest artist, keynote speaker, and pedagogue nationally and internationally. Her current and former students include prizewinners in international competitions, and hold important teaching posts on every continent. Combining a busy concert schedule with seminars and master classes worldwide, she has taught a class of international students at Eastman School of Music for 37 years and now teaches at Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival, which had it's successful inaugural season in 2013.

Fleur de Son’s tribute and to Mozart continues with this second volume of his works for violin and piano. Long affiliated colleague and friend Jacques passionately pursued this Mozart project with Christina Petrowska Quilico right to the very end, with a performance at the Chautauqua Festival on July 11, 2015. At his suggestion, they sight-read all the Mozart Sonatas. It was so much fun that soon some late sonatas appeared on a concert. He then insisted that all of them be performed in one day. As Petrowska Quilico recalls when she asked why, his response was that of Sir Edmund Hillary on climbing Mount Everest: “Because it is there!” Jacques observed: “It’s fun to see in one day the evolution of the form in Mozart’s head. He started very young… and the last sonatas were written three years before he died.” That remark led to the accomplishment of actually performing all of the sonatas in a marathon concert. Out of that experience this recording project emerged. The marathon concert lasted seven and a half hours, with three very short breaks. The artists were so energized that they just had to duplicate the excitement of the live performances by recording the entire series.

Short Stories demonstrates the versatility of the viola. In gathering these works, I wanted to find a wide variety of sound, color, and emotional content. This collection shows the viola's warmth and depth, while also displaying it's virtuosic and expressive capabilities. A great joy in my musical life is working with composers, and I feel fortunate to have been able to meet and collaborate with a number of formidable ones. I met Betsy Jolas at a concert in Syracuse, NY and, taken with her music, was thrilled to record Episode sixteen. My admiration and friendships with Dan Visconti, Andrew Waggoner, and Anna Weesner resulted in performing Dan's Hard-Knock Stomp and commissioning Andrew and Anna to write their pieces Elle s'enfuit and Flexible Parts, respectively. - Melia Watras.
