Guibert was known as the “Diseuse fin-de-siecle” or “decadent story-teller” because of her habit of slipping speech into songs; singer/actress Nathalie Joly has astonishingly reinstated Guibert in France’s national heritage, and given new substance and wit to the diseuse as a contemporary symbol.
