Francisco Jose de Castro was a violinist and composer who lived during the seventeenth century. He moved from his birthplace of Seville to Brescia in Northern Italy where he composed a large body of chamber music. This album features his trio sonatas. The sonatas consist of a prelude followed by dance movements, including some in the French manner. La Real Camara are modern virtuosi who are skilled in this genre, and include Enrico Gatti and Emilio Moreno, who regards Castro as the “Spanish Corelli.”
