Elizabeth and Ray Chenault have commissioned an unusual but important new repertoire from leading composers: organ music for two to play at the same console. This disc consists entirely of world premieres (with the exception of the John Philip Sousa) from a veritable "who's who" of modern Anglican/Episcopal sacred music composers.

The Anglican musical tradition is rich with music for All Saints Day. The choirs of St. Philips Cathedral in Atlanta, under the direction of Dale Adelmann, perform new and traditional anthems with themes of heaven and the saints. Mr. Adelmann, Canon for Music at the Cathedral of St. Philip since 2009, has conducted choral festivals and workshops across the US. He is a past president of the Association of Anglican Musicians and served terms as editor and consulting editor of its Journal. Completing a Ph.D. specializing in the revival of Anglican choral worship at the University of Cambridge, England, he became the first North American to sing in the Choir of St. John’s College, and served as musical director of The Gentlemen of St. John’s.

Herbert Howells and Gerald Finzi , like most other British composers of their generation, were eclipsed by the rapid rise to international fame of Benjamin Britten. Additionally, modernist music critics of the 1950s derided Finzi and Howells as mere pastoralist epigones of Ralph Vaughan Williams. In the brave new world that celebrated the highly dissonant twelve-tone music of Elisabeth Lutyens and Humphrey Searle, both Finzi and Howells seemed irrelevant. The development of listener’s taste is a mysterious process, however, and while the music of Lutyens, Searle, and their generation is now rarely performed, that of Finzi and Howells has persisted in the repertory of orchestras, chamber musicians, singers, and, especially choirs. The All Saints’ Choir is the semi-professional choir of All Saints’ Church, Beverly Hills. The Choir specializes in music of the Anglican/American choral traditions, and is equally at home singing the great works of the European Continent, and music of contemporary masters.

This anthology of choral works by Pacific Northwest composers represents the diverse cultural, social, and geographical influences of the region. Nearly half of the works were composed especially for Opus 7; many are world-premiere recordings. Opus 7, one of the nation's finest choral ensembles, received three consecutive "Award for Adventurous Programming" from Chorus America. Loren Pont�n, it's Founder and Artistic Director, has been an active conductor in the Pacific Northwest for over 25 years.

The South Dakota Chorale is a professional chorus organization that gathers talented singers to share impacting performances of choral arts. Based in Sioux Falls, SD - the Chorale provides local professional singers the unique opportunity to make music, in their own backyard, with other great singers and instrumentalists from around the country. The Chorale recorded their debut commercial album with Grammy-winning producer Blanton Alspaugh. The album is particularly significant in that it includes the first major American recording of the Duruflé Requiem that utilizes Duruflé’s solo organ score. The South Dakota Chorale brings a rare opportunity for music lovers to add this version of the Requiem to their own collections.

David Ashley White, the composer to whom this album is devoted, has received much recent success. In 2015 he was awarded the Esther Farfel Award from the University of Houston and the Raabe Prize for Excellence in Sacred Composition, and was just named the American Guild of Organists’ Distinguished Composer for 2016. This release features the premiere recording of “Choral Evensong”, sung here by the Palmer Chamber Choir. The choirs of Palmer Memorial Church are under the direction of Brady Knapp. Under Knapp’s leadership these choirs have been invited to perform at regional and national conventions, and have been featured on NPR broadcasts.
