As companionable, healthy and English as the South Downs on a sunny day was the early verdict on Thomas Dunhill's Piano Quintet. The same could apply equally to Erlanger's Piano Quintet. Both works receive attractive performances from Piers Lane and the Goldner String Quartet.

2020 release. If the name of Henry Charles Litolff is familiar today only through the scherzo of his Concerto symphonique No 4, the absurdity of that 'one-hit composer' tag is clearly demonstrated by this release. These are among the finest examples of the piano trio genre still inexplicably absent from the standard repertoire.

Volume 67 of Hyperion's Romantic Piano Concerto series features Ludomir R�zycki (1884-1953), a composer who remains frustratingly obscure outside of his native Poland. On this exciting disc, pianist Jonathan Plowright is the soloist in R�zycki's three works for piano and orchestra, accompanied by Lukasz Borowicz leading the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. These pieces showcase a composer with an accomplished ear for instrumental color, whose late-nineteenth-century musical language responds to the horrors of two world wars with an irrepressible spirit.

No fewer than three important first recordings of works by Duarte Lobo are featured on this album from Cupertinos and Lu�s Toscano. This is music with which they feel a natural kinship, as these intense, idiomatic performances can attest.

The London Oratory Schola Cantorum illustrates the Golden Age with this selection of motets from sixteenth-century Spain culminating in Alonso Lobo's great funerary ode for Philip II, Versa est in luctum.
