It had been always said that our knowledge of Bruno Walter's performing art is based upon the recordings the conductor realized in the US at the end of a long career. Many are indeed quite incredible, but to find the power typical of this conductor it is necessary look at the American recordings of the 1940s. This release collects four such recordings; in addition to works of Mozart, Dvorak and Schubert is Robert Schumann's poetical and beautiful Symphony No, 4, op. 120 in an interpretation far from the German tradition: more genuine, touching and deep.

The legacy of the conductor Sergiu Celidache is honored with a re-release of a 1965 live performance with the Orchestra e Teatro "La Fenice" di Venezia. With a program that included winning performances of Mussorgsky's "Pictures At An Exhibition", along with the not usual inclusion of Cherubini's "Symphony in D" and the then premiere of a work by Swedish composer, Sven Erik Back, the maestro Celidache's reputation as an iconoclast among conductors with his programming choices is evident with this collection. With exception technical and sound quality, this live recording presents a significant opportunity towards a reappreciation of Celidache.

IDIS goes on, with this fifth volume of the series “Karajan Spectacular,” in representing some of the most famous Karajan recordings of Fifties and Seventies . This release presents some exceptional works like the lively suite “ Pini di Roma” by Respighi and the touching interlude from Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo. In a collection that’s ranging from Italy to France to Russia, what’s certainly recognizable is the incredible art and talent of the German conductor who was able to give so much to his ensembles. Austrian conductor Herbert von Karajan was the principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic for 35 years. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest conductors of the twentieth century, and was an extraordinary figure in European music from the mid 1950s until his death in 1989. This is largely due in part to the number of recordings that he made and their prominence during his life. During his lifetime, he sold an estimated 200 million records.
