CD reissue. Francis Joseph Spanier was better known as "Muggsy,' established his own style that distinguished his playing from that of other cornet players. When he is leading a group, one can immediately recognize who is on the cornet. The notes for this CD set, along with the book Muggsy Spanier: The Lonesome Road (1995) by Bert Whyatt, give a fairly detailed analysis of his style. Suffice to say here he is a hot player, punching out his notes in flurries and driving the band. His tone is fat and firm and with just a slight vibrato at the end of each phrase.

Recorded in New Orleans in April of 2015, this is our second CD. Featured along with regular EarRegulars Jon-Erik Kellso on trumpet and Matt Munisteri on guitar and vocals are New Orleanians Evan Christopher on clarinet and Kerry Lewis on bass. Hot stuff!

Sir Charles Thompson is one of the longest active jazz musicians - he was touring in territory bands in the 30s, play ing with the founding fathers of bebop in the 1940s, starring on 52nd Street in the 1950s and was highlighting the Japanese jazz scene when these sides were recorded. Yoshio Toyama led a New Orleans style band for many years along with his wife Keiko. They met Thompson and arranged a session to pay tribute to thewonderful sides Sir Charles recorded for Vanguard in the 1950s some of the most revered small group sides ever recorded.

Trumpeter and vocalist Doc Cheatham is backed by Dick Well stood on piano, bassist Bill Pemberton, and Jackie Williams on drums. CD includes a unissued radio interview. This CD contains songs from two separate performances recorded in June 1967 in Manchester, England. The first show features Wilson with Randy Colville, Ian Taylor and Dave Edwards. The second show features Wilson with Dave Shepherd, Ronnie Gleaves, Peter Chapman and Johnny Richardson.

Fast-growing jazz star Evan Christopher brings back the sound of great jazz and swing a la Edmond Hall on this release recorded in 1998. (2-CD set) Don Suhor played clarinet and alto sax in a stunning variety of jazz contexts in New Orleans for over 55 years. Passionately devoted to the art of jazz, with no interest in self-promotion, his career defined "low profile." Decades of work with traditional jazz groups in settings like the Famous Door, Crazy Shirley's, and the Palm Court Cafe were the ground for development of a unique and highly advanced clarinet style that made use of his prodigious technique. His inventive alto sax work was honed in gritty postwar underground bebop sessions and strip clubs in the French Quarter. In the years before his death in 2003 he kept a hectic schedule-a steady trio gig at the Court of Two Sisters, a big band session with Irvin Mayfield, modern combo work at Snug Harbor. This two-CD set, largely recordings from private sessions, ensures that Don Suhor's talents will not go unsung.
