This 41-track 2-CD comprises the A and B sides of just about all of his releases as a solo artist during this first decade of his career, from his debut for the Savoy label in 1953, and including his subsequent releases during this era on the Specialty, Ace, Vin, Rex and Imperial imprints through to 1962, after which there was a hiatus in his recording activities until later in the 60s. It includes his R\u0026amp;B hits \"Those Lonely, Lonely Nights\" and \"Always a First Time\", and his classic and much-covered songs \"Come On\" and \"Trick Bag\" - \"Come On\" was later recorded by Jimi Hendrix on his \"Electric Ladyland\" album, and other songs of his were covered by the likes of Lee Dorsey, Robert Palmer, The Neville Brothers and Dr. John. This anthology represents a thorough overview of his output during this time, and is a highly entertaining showcase for his distinctive brand of up-front New Orleans R\u0026amp;B","brand":"ACROBAT","offers":[{"title":"CD","offer_id":46014945296618,"sku":"824046327125","price":21.04,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0614\/3423\/3066\/files\/3822878.jpg?v=1778363150"},{"product_id":"dvorak-string-quartet-american-quintet-firkusny-juilliard-261894","title":"Dvorak: String Quartet \"American\", Quintet \/ Firkusny, Juilliard Quartet","description":"DVORÁK: STRING QUARTET AMERICA","brand":"Sony Masterworks","offers":[{"title":"CD","offer_id":46027680481514,"sku":"5099704817026","price":17.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0614\/3423\/3066\/files\/3816402.jpg?v=1778276011"},{"product_id":"early-years-the-collection-1946-56","title":"EARLY YEARS: THE COLLECTION 1946-56","description":"Earl Coleman - Early Years: The Collection 1946-56 \/ Earl Coleman was one of a coterie of fine African-American jazz and R\u0026amp;B crooners who came to the fore during the post-war era, and which included Nat King Cole, Billy Eckstine, Johnny Hartman, and later examples like Brook Benton. Unlike some of those artists, however, his career never quite scaled the heights that his talent promised or merited, although he made some excellent records with notable artists along the way. This 2-CD collection comprises as many of his recordings we could amass - he was not a prolific recording artist, and some of his sides are hard to locate, and his work has not been very thoroughly compiled over the years. It features a significant proportion of his studio recordings during this era, both on singles for the Dial, Atlantic, Mercury, Jade and Prestige labels, and albums, including the titles from his album for the Prestige label \"Earl Coleman Returns\" and his performances with the Sonny Rollins Quartet for the Rollins' album \"Tour de Force\". Other notable bandleaders and musicians featured in the recordings are Miles Davis, Gene Ammons, Charlie Parker, Erroll Garner, Milt Jackson, Red Callender, Howard McGhee, Percy Heath, Kenny Clarke, Junior Mance, Linton Garner, Fats Navarro, Art Farmer, Gigi Gryce, Hank Jones, Oscar Pettiford, Sonny Rollins, Max Roach and other noted musicians. The willingness of those stars to invite him to record with them underlines the respect in which he was held. It's a collection which offers a rare showcase for a stylish performer who should have had much more success and recognition than he enjoyed over the years.","brand":"ACROBAT","offers":[{"title":"CD","offer_id":46054990807274,"sku":"824046349622","price":22.21,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0614\/3423\/3066\/files\/4271319-3077140.jpg?v=1780075527"},{"product_id":"soul-king-of-bessemer-al","title":"SOUL KING OF BESSEMER, AL","description":"SOUL KING OF BESSEMER, AL","brand":"MUSIC MAKER","offers":[{"title":"CD","offer_id":46055003455722,"sku":"601163011263","price":11.44,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0614\/3423\/3066\/files\/4500763-3548666.jpg?v=1780075708"},{"product_id":"at-the-end-the-vocal-singles-1956-1962","title":"AT THE END: THE VOCAL SINGLES 1956-1962","description":"The silky smooth vocal style of Earl Grant was, along with his keyboard skills, highly regarded among young and old record buyers from the mid-50s until his untimely death in a road accident in 1970. When he passed away prematurely, he left behind a vast catalogue of albums and singles that have mostly remained un-reissued in the digital era. Some years ago, Jasmine put together a 2CD set containing his first four albums. We are now finally following that release up with a compilation of almost all of Earl's vocal 45s from the first six years of his career - the first time, to our knowledge, that such an undertaking has been attempted and accomplished. Earl did not have many significant hits outside of his international 1958 chart smash 'The End' and the ever popular 1960 club favourite 'House Of Bamboo', but he always delivered a quality product and many of these singles sold extremely well over an extended period of time. He was with the same record label for his entire career barring his first two obscure 45s - and let's face it, that would not have happened if he hadn't been selling records! The selections here range from cool R\u0026amp;B covers to sublime, mature balladry, all delivered in a style not unlike that of Earl's idol Nat King Cole. The music featured has aged well, stood the test of time and offers a fine testament to his abundant talent.","brand":"JASMINE RECORDS","offers":[{"title":"CD","offer_id":46055027278058,"sku":"604988283327","price":11.76,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0614\/3423\/3066\/files\/4492114-3524037.jpg?v=1780077008"}],"url":"https:\/\/arkivmusic.com\/collections\/jimmy-earl.oembed","provider":"ArkivMusic","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
