Jeneba Kanneh-Mason's debut solo album is out now! 'Fantasie' takes you on a journey that explores connections across different composers' sound worlds. From Claude Debussy, Fr�d�ric Chopin and Alexander Scriabin to Florence Price, Margaret Bonds and William Grant Still, Jeneba presents a programme which is also very personal to her as an artist.

Juan Ramon Jimenez is the author of the famous poetic prose in 138 short episodes, Platero y yo, which he wrote in 1914. Spokesman of the simplicity of life and poet with a strong sensitivity, he tells a story, imbued with a classic sense of form and at the same time "moral," of his return to the land of his childhood and of his encounter with the donkey, Platero. The images that the poet shows us through the eyes of the young donkey are those of a typical Spanish landscape made of scenes of uncontaminated and pure life. From the fairy-tale adventure of these pages full of pure poetry, love and nostalgia one doesn't doesn't leave untouched. The reader that follows the narrative ends up finding himself with a child's gaze full of wonder and overcome by the affection of this magical journey. Castelnuovo-Tedesco, therefore, recognized the value of this work and chose to set some of the scenes to music, not for guitar and sung voice (principally) but for guitar and narrator. It is evident after reading the literary pieces that the criteria for his selection was the aesthetic contents and the evident "translatability" of the contents into a purely musical language. Guitarist Stephen Figoni and the voices of Laura Aguzzoni and Olimpia Pizzol guide us into the simple, enchanted world evoked by the two great artists' contributions.

The Asasello-Quartet continues their project: their complete recording of all string quartets by Dmitri Shostakovich enters it's second phase in honor of his 50th anniversary of death in 2025. On the program are the first six quartets by Shostakovich, marking the beginning of the most significant quartet oeuvre of the 20th century. In every note, one senses the profound familiarity of this award-winning and internationally highly regarded ensemble with the shimmering and moving works of the great Russian composer: important music, brilliantly performed!

Celebrated violinists Maria Milstein and Mathieu van Bellen pair Bela Bartok's 44 Duos for Two Violins with Luciano Berio's 34 Duetti per Due Violini. Bartok's miniature masterpieces have inspired and delighted countless young musicians. Although written for children, these duos are far from childlike: original harmonies, striking dissonances and lively rhythms are employed to create music with emotional depth, some being profoundly tragic, others fierce, lyrical, wild or fiery. Few works capture the vitality of folk music as vividly as these. Like Bartok, Berio composed his 'Duetti' as teaching pieces, dedicating each of the 34 duos to a friend, colleague or composer, beginning with Bela, an homage to Bartok. The pieces offer a kaleidoscope of styles, reflecting Berio's personal connections with the dedicatees.

Leonardo Garcia Alarcon presents and contrasts two monumental works: a Messa Concertata by the choirmaster of the Basilica of San Petronio in Bologna and the famous Dixit Dominus composed by George Frideric Handel in Rome in 1707. A fascinating comparison between a first recording of a forgotten masterpiece and a new interpretation of one of the most brilliant works by the young Handel, dazzled as he was by his discovery of the Italian Baroque.

Though naturally closely associated with the organ and harpsichord, Bach had a special relationship with the violin, his father's instrument, throughout his life. Moreover, we know that he was a highly skilled player, performing regularly at the court of Weimar, and probably also at Kothen and Leipzig. He wrote and transcribed concertos and sonatas for violin, but above all created the unprecedented collection of Sonatas and Partitas for solo instrument. And it is precisely for this vehicle of pure virtuosity that Marco Serino's new project offers four masterpieces, only one of which - the Partita No. 2, the most ambitious work in the group - has survived in a version for violin. Both the first two Suites for cello and the Toccata and Fugue BWV 565, however, already boast an important tradition of violin transcriptions. Pervaded by the virtual polyphony so characteristic of the celebrated Sei solo, these extraordinary pieces, which are presented from a different perspective than usual, celebrate this art of transformation pursued by the artists of the Baroque as an ideal of continuous and fruitful metamorphosis.

How many people truly know the works of Dora Pejacevic, Louise Farrenc, Cecile Chaminade, or Emilie Mayer as they deserve? Does the passport reflect cultural identity or nationality? Belgian by birth, but raised in Seattle in the United States, the question of identity has been a constant in the life of young cellist Pierre Fontenelle. He dedicates his first solo recording to the 21st century America in which he grew up, paying tribute to the diversity of this society. These works reflect the many waves of immigration that have forged this multiculturalism celebrated by the musical environment, a synthesis of European classical music, blues, jazz, rock and, more recently, world music. The album is essentially dedicated to three female composers with whom Pierre has had the opportunity to work: Caroline Shaw, Reena Esmail and Andrea Casarrubios. A forthcoming second volume will be devoted to his native Belgium.

Hammond B-3 organ has a rich host of illustrious players in the jazz history including Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Joey DeFrancesco to mention a few, but Brian Charette is the first (and so far the only) jazz artist who recorded solo organ albums. The first release was highly acclaimed SCCD 31756 Borderline of 2013. Here on his third solo endeavour Charette delights us premiering as vocalist on 2 tracks. This CD marks the first commercial release of recordings by the great Czech guitarist, Petra Polackova. Smetana's two string quartets could be said to be the first programmatic chamber music pieces ever written. The first quartet is a remarkable work with a very strong connection to Czech musicians. It belongs among the real treasures of Czech chamber music. The main characteristic of the second quartet is it's intensity of musical ideas, as the composer was deaf and close to the end of his life. The Dance of Comedians illustrates the famous era of Smetana �s being considered the Czech national composer. An idiomatic account by one of Czech leading string quartets.

Niemandsland is Matthias Meyer's first own album. The international quintet (Larsen is Danish and Braylovskiy Russian) is his first own group. This seems amazing given the maturity of the compositions and arrangements, the density of the interplay as well as the collective spirit and individual class. One reason is certainly the freshly won, purposefully implemented artistic self-image of the bandleader. The close connection between the band members is just as important.
