At the age of five, Accursio Antonio Cortese began studying music and the organ with his grandfather, D. Imbornone. At the V. Bellini Conservatory (now A. Scarlatti) in Palermo, he earned a Piano Diploma with O. Buogo and a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Composition with honors and special mention under M. Betta. He earned a Master's degree in Composition with I. Fedele at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia with top honors. He specialized in film music composition with L. Bacalov and opera with G. Battistelli, both at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. He studied conducting with C. Caruso, choral music and choral conducting with M. Ghiglione. He furthered his knowledge of jazz music by attending international seminars in Siena and at Roccella Jazz. He has a substantial catalog of symphonic, chamber, sacred, operatic, and film compositions. His music has been performed in Italy, the USA, Argentina, Finland, Russia, Switzerland, France, and Romania, in prestigious venues. His music is published by Suvini Zerboni - Sugar Music (Milan), Sconfinarte Editions (Brescia), and Isuku Verlag (Munich).

When one first imagines the sound of a magisterial bass voice and a pipe organ, one cannot help but imagine some sort of glorious Vox Dei pronouncing eternal truths from the numinous beyond, but in this extraordinary recital from Danish-Spanish organist and composer and acclaimed Danish bass-baritone Jakob Bloch Jespersen, Eros and Agape are twined and intertwined. Three incredibly different song cycles from three outstanding Danish composers explore this unique sound world; the late Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen is represented in what may well be his musical Last Will and Testament, a set of transcriptions from his opera Sun Rises, Sun Sets, based on the Biblical Song of Solomon. Bent Lorentzen, one of the key figures and pioneers of early Danish electronic music, explores the themes of love, sensual, and divine in a manner somewhat reminiscent of a Nordic Messiaen in his song cycle Erotic Hymns. Our recital concludes with Nicolai Worsaae's emotionally (and sonically) devastating theatre piece for bass voice and organ, A Shipwreck, which explores the themes of life, death, and resurrection, pushing the magnificent organ at Our Saviour's Church (Vor Frelsers Kirke), Copenhagen, to it's expressive limits, all captured vividly by one of Denmark's most celebrated recording engineers, Preben Iwan. A MUST HEAR for vocal and organ aficionados!

Esquisses opens up a fascinating soundscape for horn and piano, in which rare musical miniatures engage in a new dialogue alongside familiar masterpieces. The selection brings together finely drawn sketches from late Romanticism, modernism, and contemporary music-including forgotten gems from the Russian-Ukrainian repertoire, early works by great teachers such as Glazunov and Tcherepnin, as well as pieces written especially for the performers by Swiss composers such as Daniel Schnyder and Thüring Bräm. This recording shows how rich, colorful, and virtuosic the literature for horn and piano can be-beyond the beaten track.

The entire project is both spare and impossibly lush. While this may sound like a contradiction, it has everything to do with the virtuosic musicianship of pianist Art Hirahara and Jim Tomlinson, as well as Stacey's elegant and unadorned vocal approach. The opening track, Lucky To Be Me, works as an invitation to the theme of the album and uses the open space between vocal phrases to draw us in. And, while all of the tracks are worth an unadulterated listen, I'm going to list a few of my favorites, starting with La Javanaise, which is delivered with an almost offhanded musical precision and sung in Stacey's pitch-perfect French. The surprising warmth of Stacey's lower vocal range makes A Time For Love the intimate ballad it was meant to be. Jim's tenor sax does the same, so that his playing is the ideal complement to Stacey's voice. The entire album is a joy to listen to both musically and sonically. It was lovingly recorded and mixed by Jim (yet another of his talents) at their home studio in Virginia. - Cliff Goldmacher Stacey Kent is an American jazz singer in the mould of the greats, with a legion of fans, a host of honors and awards including a Grammy® nomination, album sales in excess of 2 million and more than one billion streams, and Platinum, Double-Gold, and Gold-selling albums that have reached a series of chart-topping positions. Stacey, a comparative literature graduate with a passion for music, travelled to Europe to further her studies after receiving her degree from Sarah Lawrence College in NY. Through a series of twists of fate, she found herself in London, where she enrolled in a graduate music program at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she met her future husband and musical partner, Jim Tomlinson. Kent's musical journey began with childhood piano lessons. A keen ear and true voice led her to search out opportunities to express her love of music. Her unique multi-lingual repertoire includes standards, chanson, Bossa Nova, and originals written by Jim Tomlinson, her saxophonist/producer/composer/arranger husband, in collaboration with the Nobel Prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro, with whom they have worked since 2006. The new program, Paul Auster Jazz, is inspired by characters of the great writer Paul Auster from New York City.

The union of cello and guitar belongs to that category of chamber ensembles which, despite their natural timbral affinity, have produced only a limited original repertoire. The literature for this instrumental combination is therefore relatively recent, with isolated episodes emerging mainly in the 20th and 21st centuries. Fuga dal Tempo, the recording project of Duo Escualo, was born from the desire to explore and promote this production, focusing on Italian composers or those of Italian origin, and offering a chronological perspective from 1969 to the present day. The title holds a dual meaning: on the one hand, it alludes to the temporal suspension that listening to music can generate; on the other, it evokes the possibility of escaping from the linear perception of time through a musical journey that, though rooted in history, aims to transcend it's boundaries. The three works presented here - the Sonata by Radamés Gnattali, the Suite No. 1 by Raffaele Bellafronte, and Fuga dal Tempo by Francesco Sgambati - embody three different approaches to this idea, intertwining tradition and innovation, popular roots and contemporary languages. With this recording, Duo Escualo not only enriches the limited repertoire for this ensemble, but also offers a reflection on music as an experience that traverses past and present, tradition and research, in a flow that, precisely because it is musical, is both within and beyond time.

The Saint-Sulpice Church in Paris is home to one of the world's most famous organs, and the list of titulaires who have worked there includes such well-known composers as Charles-Marie Widor, Marcel Dupré, and, of course, Daniel Roth. Since the latter's retirement at the end of 2022, 34-year-old Karol Mossakowski, born in Torun (Poland) and a graduate of the Paris National Conservatory, has been continuing the glorious tradition of composers and organists at this church. This recording was produced in stereo and 5.1 multichannel versions in order to reproduce the sound experience in the room as realistically as possible.

Forgotten Danish Romantic Piano Composer The composer Carl Schwarz (1803-1834) is a puzzling figure in Danish music. There are only a few composers about whom we know less. He is not mentioned in any reference book on the history of Danish music, nor in Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians. The all-inclusive German Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart also has nothing to say about him. It is, however, certain that he was born in Kiel, the capital of the Danish-owned duchy Holstein, in 1803. There was a considerable and fruitful exchange of knowledge between the universities in Copenhagen and Kiel, so it is hardly surprising that Carl Schwarz arrived in Copenhagen and became a pupil of Kuhlau: he and Weyse were the leading Danish composers at the beginning of the 19th century. Unfortunately, we do not know when Schwarz began to receive tuition, but given that his year of birth was 1803, it is hardly unrealistic to assume that it happened around 1820.

Where can we find beauty, truth and goodness - even in the face of death? That's the question Gudrun Sidonie Otto, soprano, and Andreas Liebig, cathedral organist in Basel, are facing on their second CD. Dvorak's Biblical Songs and Brahms' chorale preludes are works of longing: for home, for a loved one and for redemption. An eloquent testimony to an extraordinary musical friendship!

The Cappella musicale di Santa Maria in Campitelli, conducted by Maestro Vincenzo Di Betta, who has already been responsible for significant recording revivals such as Orazio Benevoli's "Missa in angustia pestilentiæ" (TC600201), Bonaventura Rubino's "Messa de' Morti" (TC601803), and Francesco Giovannini's "Messa à Quattro" (TC700703), is now engaged in this new and notably interesting musical production. This rediscovery focuses on two sacred oratorios from the seventeenth century by two authors active in the Neapolitan orbit: Francesco Nicolò de Rossi, a priest of Apulian origin, and Cristoforo Caresana, of Venetian origin and formerly the organist of St. Mark's Basilica. The two works - performed with the ensemble's customary expertise - are interspersed with an instrumental battle piece by Andrea Falconieri, composed in the spirit of that Baroque theatricality which is the main ingredient of these works and of the sacred musical masterpieces of the seventeenth century.

Spanning her debut in the 1890s to the esoteric vision of her later years, this world premiere recording features a superb line-up of rising Danish singers, breathing life into Tekla Griebel Wandall's (1869-1953) vivid songs. From the macabre irony of a -Heinrich Heine setting to the profound emotional journey of J.P. Jacobsen's poetry, Wandall grapples with seemingly irreconcilable opposites while toying with both form and feeling.

Venice-the 'incomparable city, the most beautiful queen, this paradise'-is how the Englishman Thomas Coryat describes the lagoon city that deeply impressed him on his trip to Europe in 1608. But in addition to the architecture, the canals, and the people from a wide variety of cultures, it was the music in particular that fascinated Coryat: 'It was so beautiful, so delightful, so unique, so admirable, so unsurpassable that it enchanted and amazed all the strangers.'

Less is more: true to this motto, nine orchestra musicians who were friends founded the Ensemble Minui in 2016. Active in renowned orchestras such as the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra, the Slovenian National Opera, and the Vienna State Opera, they devote themselves here to exquisite minimalism with elegance and sophistication. Homogeneous and balanced, the five string players and four wind players offer previously unheard, sonically differentiated perspectives on large-scale operas such as Wagner's Die Walküre, Puccini's Manon Lescaut, and Strauss's Die Frau ohne Schatten.

Dora Pejacevic regarded her Symphony as her most important work. Yet at it's premiere, one crucial detail was missing: her full name. In the programmes for the first performances in Vienna and Dresden, only "D. Pejacsevich" was listed. Why did the composer refrain from including her first name? And would the audience have reacted differently if they had known that the Symphony was written by a woman?

The fourth volume of the complete recording of all 18 piano sonatas by W. A. Mozart - Mozart, the Traveling Whirlwind - includes the sonata movements in G minor, KV 15p, and Siciliano in D minor, KV 15u, from the London sketchbook of the 8-year-old Mozart; the sonata movement in B-flat major, KV 400/372; and Sonatas Nos. 7, 8, and 9. Michael Wessel combines the insights of historically informed performance practice with the rich, colorful tone of the modern Bösendorfer concert grand piano in a refreshing way: a lively, contrasting mixture of speaking and singing characters.

Winner of the 2024 La Maestra competition in Paris and recipient of five additional prizes, conductor Bar Avni is pursuing a very promising career. Born in Israel, she first studied percussion before turning to conducting. She counts Yoav Talmi, Barbara Hannigan and Ayelet Geva as mentors and has assisted conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Klaus Mäkelä and Myung-Whun Chung. Avni is known for her desire to seek out programmes that are off the beaten track. This is evident in her first recording with the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine, which combines the music of Charlotte Sohy, Darius Milhaud, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Igor Stravinsky. The programme opens with Sohy's symphony Grande Guerre, which was composed in 1914 but only premiered in 2019. Milhaud composed his first of six Petites Symphonies in 1917 while he was secretary to Paul Claudel, French ambassador to Brazil. C. P. E. Bach's sparkling symphony, composed in 1775, precedes the final work by Stravinsky, his first major work composed after he moved to America around 1940, a Symphony in Three Movements. Three movements: the common thread running through the works on this symphonic journey.

Franco Corelli, along with Mario Del Monaco and Carlo Bergonzi, is universally recognized as the greatest Italian tenor of the last century. This edition of his performances is based primarily on the early recordings he made for the Italian Cetra and includes a selection of great scenes from his repertoire, including a crucial, high-quality live version of Don Carlo, which Corelli never recorded in a studio.

Paris is gripped by fear. A series of murders is leaving a bloody trail through the city. We are talking about E.T.A. Hoffmann's story "Das Fräulein von Scuderi," published in 1819 and often cited as one of the earliest German crime stories. And even though the story is set in the Paris of the time of Louis XIV, the work has a deeply romantic quality, driven by a fascination with genius, coupled with dark passions and terrible crimes. In 1925, Hindemith came into contact with the publicist and poet Ferdinand Lion. To Lion's libretto, influenced by New Objectivity, Paul Hindemith set music that, for all it's modernity, consciously takes up historical forms and brings them into play in a neo-baroque manner. The highly acclaimed, star-studded series of performances by the Vienna State Opera, is hereby released for the first time as a gripping live recording.

'A central concern of the ensemble Der Musikalische Garten has always been to bring musical rarities to light and, in particular, to make previously unknown works accessible to a wide audience. With their new album Der letzte Mund voll Süße, the musicians are continuing this endeavour in an impressive way: the album features no fewer than four World Premiere Recordings and provides fascinating insights into the expressive diversity of the 18th century. The album opens with a previously undiscovered overture by Johann Gottlieb Graun, which can be heard here for the first time on disc. At the centre of the recording, however, are three secular cantatas by his brother Carl Heinrich Graun. While some cantatas are reminiscent of the high baroque operatic style of Vivaldi or Handel with their virtuosity and emotionally charged melodies, the cantata 'Hat die Schönheit kein Erbarmen' presents itself as an intimate chamber music reflection on the suffering of love. It's melancholy mood is taken up in the following trio sonata and developed to a dramatic conclusion. Soprano Isabel Schicketanz impresses in the vocal works with her tonal presence, technical brilliance and sensitive text organisation, her interpretation lends depth and vibrancy to the emotionally charged cantatas. Der Musikalische Garten supports this liveliness with it's orchestral sound, which it achieves with enthusiasm and esprit despite it's small instrumentation, in this way, the ensemble achieves a realisation that is both nuanced and energetic - an exciting rediscovery of two important 18th century composers that makes you sit up and take notice.

The Finnish guitarist Kalle Kalima met the double bassist Oliver Potratz and the drummer Oliver Steidle in Berlin in the year 2000. The three musicians became companions on a journey that has now lasted for 25 years. They have defined their own sound and consistently push the boundaries of what is musically possible in a trio formation. The musical combination of influences from Finland and Berlin results in an original, wild and creative jazz music. Klima Kalima uses elements from rock, blues and folk to give their modern jazz sound a quirky and unique touch. The album 'Finn Noir' was released in 2013 (Enja Records), followed by the live album 'Live' (Planet Berlin 2022). These, along with their earlier albums 'Loru', 'Chasing Yellow' and 'Helsinki on My Mind', received excellent international reviews. They won the New German Jazz Award in 2008 and have performed concerts across Europe. Their new album 'Voyager Blues' will be released in fall 2025 on TYXart records. This project revolves around the twin spacecraft Voyager 1 and 2, which are located in the boundary zone of the solar system. One by one, the instruments on board are being shut down, in the hope that enough energy remains for the remaining devices to function until 2030. The musical project 'Voyager Blues' centers on these dying probes, with the band Klima Kalima providing the soundtrack to an imaginary film about the increasingly lonely and fading spacecraft. This theme also resonates with the lifestyle of the three musicians, who seem destined to be on the road for life. Over 25 years of hard work - through endless cycles of composing, rehearsing, performing live, and recording - the trio has developed it's own language. The magazine 'Jazzthetik' wrote of their last album: "Monk-ish in a cheerfully stubborn spirit, but not in repertoire, the three developed a richly packed program of distortions, exaggerations, and intensifications." In this project, the group returns to it's musical roots. This freer musical language is essential in 'Voyager Blues' to reflect the endless loneliness of the probes and allows even more space for ideas and dialogue among the musicians. Musically, this time the focus is on a narrative, melodic language. The basic concept is the blues - it's simplicity and clarity echo the solitary nature of dying. Alongside are melodies and polyrhythmic layers, interpreted in rock-inspired, constant dialogues between the musicians.

A world-premiere recording of works by a brilliant composer who died far too young at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Her Ballads stand among the finest achievements in Polish piano music. Sarnecka's writing is intense and deeply reflective, marked by bold dissonances and sweeping, expertly crafted modulations. Pianist Marek Szlezer brings this forgotten music back to life with performances of striking emotional depth and powerful sonority-an ideal match for the expressive, dramatic voice of this gifted Young Poland composer.

First Impression is the debut album by trumpeter and composer D!ma Loginov, a deeply personal statement shaped by memory, migration, and identity. Rooted in modern jazz and enriched with elements of Kazakh folk music, the album reflects Loginov's journey from his childhood in Kazakhstan to his artistic life in Amsterdam. Across eight tracks, he blends soulful melodies, bold improvisation, and spiritual intensity, creating music that speaks as much through feeling as through sound.
