Perosi: Oratorios
Monsignor Lorenzo Perosi (Tortona, December 1872-Rome, October 1956) was an Italian priest and composer. He is most widely remembered for his sacred music, particularly his oratorios, polyphonic masses and his motets. To understand the importance of Perosi in modern music, a significant phrase from Puccini can be recognized: “There is more music in the Perosi head than in mine and Mascagni’s put together.” This release features the oratorios “Il Natale del Redentore (The Christmas of the Redeemer),” “La passione di Cristo (The Passion of the Christ),” “La risurrezione di Cristo (The resurrection of Christ),” and “Transitus Animae.”
