The inspiration for this album came from a bassoon, which Donna Agrell acquired in the mid-1980s. The instrument was a Grenser & Wiesner, and had been built in Dresden around 1820. The rare instrument came with an address label on its original case, which indicated that it had been delivered to Stockholm. This label inspired Ms. Agrell to investigate the music that was popular in Stockholm around that time. The works that Ms. Agrell has chosen for this album are chamber works which were all premiered by Frans Preumayr, a bassoon virtuoso who inspired composers such as Berhard Henrik, Edouard Du Puy, and Franz Berwald to write pieces for him. Other artists on this recording include clarinetist Lorenzo Coppola, violinists Marc Destrube and Franc Polman, violist Yoshiko Morita, cellist Albert Bruggen, bassist Robert Franenberg, and pianist Ronald Brautigam.
