This recording features French trombonist François Lemonnier and Swedish organist Karin Nelson performing music from a variety of periods and styles. They have chosen contrasting thematic material as a medium to reveal the adaptability of improvisational performance and to explore the netherworld that lurks in the margins of musical classification. These inventions originate from notated music from the Western tradition, including themes from Gregorian chant, folk music and jazz. A musician or listener from earlier centuries had a specific and limited insight of his or her own time and history, while the contemporary person has another experience and understanding. The contemporary experience may include insight into an earlier time but it is nevertheless limited by current common perceptions. As with an ancient sculpture on display in a modern museum, with this music the artists strive to expose musical art from a different perspective than that from which it was originally heard.

It is rare to hear a composition for big band paired with a classical chorus, but composer Siobhan Lamb is known for bringing these seemingly disparate elements together with a deft hand. Pairing this musical palette with texts from the Oscar Wilde story of the same name yields a unique result. The Nightingale and the Rose was originally commissioned by the WDR Big Band and Symphonic Choir in Germany, but is here performed in a new incarnation by the Danish Radio Big Band & Choir.

Jonas Holgersson, born in Furulund (Sweden), has established himself as one of Scandinavians most skilled and well-known drummer. After completed studies at Kungliga Musikhögskolan, Stockholm, he soon became a musician in great demand in various bands and projects.

Proprius presents Shades of Blue, the new album from Celia Linde. Swedish guitarist, Celia Linde, grew up in an artist family in the forest of Kolm�rden where music and literature were highly valued. She received her Master of Arts and Master Soloist with the highest grade under the guidance of Professor Per-Olof Johnson at The Malm� Academy of Music and The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. In 1982, Celia Linde was accepted into a master course at the Conservatoire de Musique de Geneve with the legendary guitarist Andr�s Segovia. Segovia described her as "... extremely gifted for the right interpretation of serious music on the guitar, her technique is excellent and her musicianship exact, noble and expressive!" Taking Segovia's advice, Celia traveled to New York in 1984 at Manhattan School of Music where she enrolled in a Post Graduate Program. Among other things she studied South American guitar music with Carlos Barbosa-Lima. In 1986 she won a top prize in the Segovia Fellowship Competition at New York University. The organ trio is an exciting and unusual form of composition: the organ taking not only the role of piano but also of a full orchestra with all the colors and dynamic contrast that ensue. Rheinberger's trio is an established work in the organ trio repertoire, utilizing the potential of all three instruments in a classical trio form. Staffan Storm's trio from 2012 is in five movements, each of which take inspiration from a Psalter Psalm. The work is written with the three musicians featured here in mind: they are colleagues at the Malm� Academy of Music and active members of the city's cultural life. Their concerts featuring commissioned modern works combined with older classic works have been both stimulating and well received. This encouraged them to turn to Kaj-Erik Gustafsson in the search for new repertoire. They have even commissioned works by Lukasz Lisowski and Daniel Hjorth both of whom live and work in Malm�. Daniel Hjort's (f 1973) piece Ad lucem from 2017 is available on several digital platforms as a bonus-track with the ensemble.

The prologue, like the prelude, welcomes the listeners into a world of ambiance and resonance. On this release, one is able to enjoy both Bach's 5 Preludes and Staffan Isb�ck's 5 Prologues. A wave-like movement, an interference that both opens up and strengthens the relationship between music and composer. The preludes by Bach are followed by his famous Fugue for lute as well as the highly poetic Sarabande from the second suite for lute. Jim Nilsson, guitarist with a soloist diploma from Hochschule fur Musik in Basel, does here perform Bach on a seven-string 1820-replica guitar made by Lars Jonsson. The result is a tone carrying both the esprit of the lute and the warmth and dynamics of the guitar. By Staffan Isback, there are also three fantasies after themes by Jerome Kern, Chick Corea, and Duke Ellington- not in any way jazz-like, but more of the joy of walking on familiar ground. The suite Den andra enkelheten (The Second Simplicity) is a kind of bridge towards the music of Bach and breathes simplicity and playfulness and functions as a link to pieces for lute. The collection also contains Theme and Variation of Varmlandsvisa and two pieces from Sex Svenska slot (Six Swedish Palaces).
