On Triumvirate, composer Walter Ross’ second release on Ravello Records, the concerto is showcased as a genre, illustrating that tension and opposition can create balance and richness. Throughout the three concerti, themes, timbres, rhythms, and tempos juxtapose each other, building webs of contrasting musical elements and textures. Flautist Jennier Borkowski creates a dialog between Western and Indian classical music with her imaginatively programmed debut release Composed, which mixes her adaptations, and improvisations with lovely renderings of compositions by Baroque master, Marin Marias and Calud Debussy. Borkowski's fluid melodic lines, and steady and refined cadence and the interplay of the ensemble make this a distinctive debut.

Classical Music

This is the 5th Ravello release from the acclaimed McCormick Percussion Group. Living up to their reputation as vanguards of percussion repertoire the Group uses this album to explore the possibilities of collaboration between piano and percussion wherein neither steals the spotlight.

Composer Scott Brickman demonstrates the diversity of his inspirations and musical interests on his third full album on Ravello Records. Drawing on a sea of influences, from Baroque dance suites, to the compositional methods of Arnold Schoenberg, to punk rock, the mixture of popular and historic references broadly typifies post-modern American music composition. Two of the pieces of this albu, French Suite and Ninety-Six Strings and Two Whistles, were composed for the ensemble Eight STrings & a Whistle. The latter piece was also written for pianist Beth Levin.

This recording of Ted Moore’s Gilgamesh & Enkidu is beautifully performed by the Enkidu String Quartet. Gilgamesh & Enkidu was funded by a grant awarded by Cedar Cultural Center and the Jerome Foundation in 2013. Ted Moore is an outstanding young composer, educator, and sound engineer, living and working in Minneapolis.

Classical Music

Renowned trumpet player James Zingara presents this album of new works for trumpet. This release contains works by such composers as William Price, Carl Vollrath, Valentin Mihai Bogdan, and Jeffrey D. Boehm. James Zingara currently serves on the faculty at University of Alabama Birmingham, and frequently performs and records throughout the US.

Ken Walicki is an American composer and director of the Composition Program at California State University, Fullerton. He is widely recognized and acknowledged for his dramatic and engaging music, often using innovative instrumentation. Walicki was one of the first composers to use turntables in his music. Walicki conveys the effects of globalization and increasing dependency on technology with CYBERISTAN, a Ravello Records release. Each piece contains its own environment and its own space. The natural acoustic sounds juxtaposed against man-made sounds of electronic instrumentation supports a dichotomy of two worlds vying for supremacy but inevitably merging into one homogenous identity. The compositions invoke many aspects of such a state, such as the spacious elegance of Black Water and the eponymous Cyberistan, the airy and hopeful Sabah, the verbose call and response of the bass and electronics in Light and a more primal piece, nada Brahma, commissioned and composed for the Kronos Quartet. Walicki brilliantly captures the awe of the exotic and contrasts it elegantly with the foreboding nature of modernity. In its entirety, CYBERISTAN is a snapshot of a world that is slowly succumbing to an indifferent sameness through a more connected, yet dehumanized world.

Composer and sound designer Russell Pinkston showcases a selection of his compositions for acoustic instruments and electronic sounds. Most of these pieces combine the two, capitalizing on the absolute precision and unlimited sonic potential of electronic media, while still taking advantage of the spontaneity and expressivity of live performance. Several works feature interactive software written by the composer, which tracks a live performer and generates an electronic accompaniment in real time. "In my view," says Pinkston, "there is an inherent tension between the acoustic and the electronic sound worlds, between sounds that radiate from the resonating physical bodies of acoustic instruments and those which emanate from loudspeakers."The composer fashions this tension within the pieces themselves and in the program of the album. Works range from the purely electronic, such as Orb Spells (2004), a five-movement work that is heavily based on Indian tabla rhythms, to the purely acoustic, such as Full Circle (2013) - written for oboe, clarinet, bassoon and piano - and Summer Rhapsody (2006), a straightforward and short work for violoncello and piano commissioned by renowned cellist Carlos Prieto. Between these two extremes of instrumentation are pieces like Lizamander (2003) for solo flute and interactive electronic sounds, which was written for flautist Elizabeth McNutt and described by the Computer Music Journal as "a careful balance of traditionally stark computer-generated sounds and attractive harmonic and rhythmic elements."

This collection of chamber works by Cornell explores the nature of art and the collaboration that occurs between creator and influence. Comprised of live recordings, this album highlights the performers' instincts to respond to one another, interpreting the music both as individuals and as a group.

Night Voice, the new release by San Francisco composer Mark Winges, is a collection of warm sounding and texturally rich works featuring the viola in a lush variety of solo, duo, and trio contexts. Winges' music has been described as 'stylistically adventurous in setting, but strongly beholden to conventional means' (Gramophone) and 'a composer with the skill and self-confidence to write music that is clear, direct, and at times even simple, but not at all simple-minded' (San Francisco Classical Voice).

Composer Debra Kaye’s debut Ravello release, And So It Begins, catapults the listener into her deep universe of sound – an expedition down one NYC street and up another, through the warp and weft of interior landscapes, to Taos Mountain, on a journey through a dream, a dying, a love – as she blends her classical roots with traces of jazz, pop, world music, the pulse of city rhythms, and the expansiveness of spacious landscapes. Ms. Kaye is on the faculty of the Mannes College Preparatory Division. She has received awards from ASCAP, Meet the Composer and Mannes College of Music, among others.

Jubilus & Pantomime is a full-length performance DVD. Jubilus, written for soprano, trumpet, and percussion is an expression of physical and spiritual rejoicing hailed as "a work of enormous vitality and originality" (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette). Pantomime for chamber orchestra is a choreographic work for 15 musicians featuring movement dictated by musical patterns. Post-perfor-+mance video includes discussions on the scores and diagrams, and an interview with the composer.

The rush and restlessness of our daily lives can be like a fog, an opaque shroud distracting from nature's enlightening experiences on 'Through the Mist', her debut album, composer Pamela J. Marshall presents several works that find their origins in the composer's experiences with the natural world. Ms. Marshall earned composition degrees from Eastman and Yale Schools of Music, and has received commissions and recognition from a number of organizations, ensembles and performers. Also to build support for her music, she founded the Spindrift Commissioning Guild in 2005.
