“Peaceful Choir” by harpist Lavinia Meijer and chamber choir World Choir of Peace is a relaxing musical journey through the manifold colors and sounds of contemporary choral music. Renown international composers have contributed entirely new works or arrangements for this unique recording project, including Sir Karl Jenkins, Grammy-nominated composer and pianist Hauschka, San Fermin mastermind Ellis Ludwig-Leone, composer icon John Rutter, Estonian pop-violinist Maarja Nuut and German soundtrack composer David Reichelt (8 Days). The album includes 15 world-premiere recordings and music by house-hold names such as Ola Gjeilo, Eric Whitacre, Max Richter, Hans Zimmer and Arvo Pärt. Next to them, critically acclaimed composers of choral music have contributed to the album, such as Grammy-nominated Norwegian composer Kim André Arnesen and American composers Dan Forrest, Jake Runestand and Elaine Hagenberg.

For some pieces, the chamber choir is accompanied by an ensemble of additional instruments. Next to harpist Lavinia Meijer, violinist and influencer Esther Abrami, pianist Tim Allhoff or cellist Gereon Theis join the choir. The “World Choir for Peace” consists of 24 professional singers from 15 countries worldwide and was founded by conductor Nicol Matt. Matt has been involved in the production of more than 100 choral music recordings in his career. For this particular recording he collaborates with Grammy-winning sound engineer Gregor Zielinsky.

Beethoven: Violin Sonatas was Kavakos's debut recording on Decca Classics and was released in January 2013. An experiment that violinist Niklas Liepe dares to conduct here: to put the devil violin cycle of the Paganini Caprices into new light: 22 contemporary composers have participated in this experiment. Liepe plays confidently, without tears... differentiated in expression. A worthwhile experiment, wrote the press about Niklas Liepe's 2018 Sony Classical release "Paganini Project". The young German violinist had recorded Paganini's famous caprices in new versions for violin and orchestra in collaboration with the renowned arranger Andreas N. Tarkmann. For his new album #GoldbergReflections, Liepe has recorded, again in collaboration with Andreas N. Tarkmann, 13 variations from the famous "Goldberg-Variations" by Johann Sebastian Bach arranged for solo violin and strings. The violinist is accompanied by the NDR Radiophilharmonie under the direction of Jamie Phillips. Liepe has also invited eleven internationally renowned composers such as Moritz Eggert, Sidney Corbett, Wolf Kerschek, Rolf Rudin and Daniel Sundy to compose new variations on the basis of the Bach original. Tarkmann has transposed the variations into a baroque conceto grosso sound. These variations thus create a connection to the original and at the same time frame the new compositions, which bring the "Goldberg Variations", written 280 years ago, into the present. Anyone who is prepared to embark on something new will greatly enjoy this album. Bach's "Goldberg Variations" have never been heard in such an excitingly new and colorful way.

Here, Sony Classical releases Buniatishvili's eagerly-anticipated new album 'Labyrinth.' As befits this dazzling, passionate and mercurial performer, 'Labyrinth' will cover a range of beautiful and haunting works for piano by composers ranging from Bach, Vivaldi and Scarlatti, to Chopin, Brahms and Satie to Glass, Ligeti and Gainsbourg. 'Labyrinth' was recorded in France at La Grande Salle Pierre Boulez, Philharmonie de Paris. Born in 1987 in Batumi, Georgia, pianist Khatia Buniatishvili began studying piano under her mother at the age of three. She gave her first concert with Tbilisi Chamber Orchestra when she was 6 and appeared internationally at age 10. Khatia studied in Tbilisi with Tengiz Amiredjibi and in Vienna with Oleg Maisenberg. Buniatishvili signed with Sony Classical as an exclusive artist in 2010.

Rarely has the existence and work of a painter been so imbued and influenced by music. ANDY lived IN and THROUGH music. Eclectic, he appreciated the popular music of his time as much as the great composers and performers of the Italian Opera. A visitor to the Factory, leaving the "brouhaha" of New York streets, would suddenly discover a mind-blowing musical atmosphere: the radio broadcasting the hits of the time (DONOVAN, BOBBY VEE, IKE AND TINA TURNER), rock & roll but also genuine pop music and "street music" (found thanks to JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT), while the Master, miraculously disconnected from this tumult, worked by feasting on CALLAS' albums. It was a surprising and eclectic playlist. Very early on, ANDY got into the world of music records. During his life, he designed many album covers: classical ones at his beginning (for RCA), then crazier with time (for the ROLLING STONES). He completed this cycle in a masterful way with the covers to the soundtrack of FASSBINDER's QUERELLE. He also got involved in record production with the VELVET UNDERGROUND. Though the VELVET UNDERGROUND album was not a success when it released, today the album is considered an iconic masterpiece, even beyond the banana on it's cover. ANDY didn't pursue this direction depressed with the haunting ego questions inherent in any musical group. We are especially struck by his loyal friendships with musicians who we find throughout this album (LOU REED, MICK JAGGER). His friendly feelings were often expressed in a Polaroid session that he generously offered to translated into a portrait. Several of his muses, his �superstars�, were also accomplished musicians such as DEBBIE HARRY and ULTRA VIOLET. In conclusion, from this journey into ANDY's musical universe emerges the coherence of his musical tastes with his pictorial production, which was not burdened with any prejudices and approached countless shores with strength. We can't help but think of KARL LAGERFELD too. Both of them were passionate about the artistic manifestations of their contemporaries, both jealous of their immutable characters and both, each in their own field, were persevering smugglers, almost magically integrating the pure essence of the society in which they live into their respective creations.

This is the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to the British-American war film, composed by six-time Grammy award-winning composer Thomas Newman. Newman has composed the music to Skyfall, Tolkien, Spectre, Finding Dory, The Shawshank Redemption, and WALL-E, amongst others.

The film was nominated for Nine Oscars at the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Original Score, and winning three.

If usually a Thomas Newman score is quite balanced emotionally wise, “1917” sees the composer stretch his sound to both extremes, from ultra-quiet and ambient to aggressively tense. The result is an enjoyable hybrid that shows that just like Mendes and Deakins, Newman raised his personal stakes for this one.

Tolkien is embedded in popular culture, and because his work and outlook have been the subjects of much interpretation, I wanted to write music for Tolkien that would honor his ethos, his individualism, without being slavish to it. The musical vocabulary draws from a wide swath of instrumental and vocal colors, from winds with string accompaniment to solo voice in hushed pianissimo. There is Swedish kantélé, mandolin and monochord intersecting bell rhythms and piano-derived ambiences. The object is to give musical identity to the nascent feelings of the young storyteller from Birmingham, only just beginning to stretch his wings. It's been a long long time (twenty years passed) since Lisa Ekdahl last recorded songs she didn't write herself. Oh, she loves the game, and she has proven to be good at it. Still, there had to be a spark, a flap of wings whispering to your ear that it's the right thing to do now. That spark shone when Lisa was asked to cover "Dream a Little Dream of Me" for a Swedish documentary soundtrack. In the context of lockdowns, delayed shows and suspended projects, that little dream turned big, eventually giving birth to "Grand Songs". A covers album that is unprecedented in her discography, since she approaches modern pop songs, from the 1950's to our freshly unwrapped decade. Push the ON button of your imagination, and picture "Grand Songs" as a cozy, friendly, hygge-like party where Billie Eilish would raise a toast with the Beatles, and Bob Dylan would have a nice chat with Beyonc�. Lisa's final cut is a message in itself. It's a musical time machine reflecting the incredible cornucopia of the digital era. (� I spend hours on YouTube, exploring those decades of music coexisting today, at the same level, at a click of your hand. �) And it encourages you to open every door, to dare and make a step towards different worlds, different eras. You can't lose your identity in the process, but only grow a bigger heart and a refined vision of the world. Music wise, the recording process was light-hearted and (for the first time in Lisa's career) entirely home-made. Her Stockholm house was turned into a studio with musicians playing in live conditions, dispatched in every room except the kitchen and the bathroom. Hence a vibe of laid back playfulness, a sense of fun and community. Behind. At the end of the day, "Grand Songs" is a lovely, tender, charming and interesting station in Lisa's music trip. Her takes on Billie Eilish and Beyonc� songs demonstrate that she can be connected to the contemporary pop world and still remain consistant and loyal to herself.

The first album of Reinhard Goebel's recording project "Beethoven's World" with violin concertos by Franz Clement (1780-1842) received great attention and excellent reviews worldwide: "If the discovery of Beethoven contemporaries, which Goebel has just signed up for the Beethoven Year, continues, it will be a fine year." (Die Welt). "Reinhard Goebel promises further exciting explorations of Beethoven's world after these two violin concertos by Clement." (SWR2) This recording is the second volume of "Beethoven's World" featuring two rarities by Beethoven contemporaries: Concertos composed for 2 cellos and orchestra are few and far between, and even fewer in the quality shown here: The Concertino op. 72 by Bernhard Romberg (1767-1841) is a world premiere recording. The work is a gigantic tour de force with only the most necessary breathers for the two soloists. The insanely virtuoso Sinfonia Concertante by Antonín Reicha (1770-1836) is full of creative experiments and shows clear references to Beethoven's musical grammar. These double cello concertos were recorded with the cellists Stephan Koncz and Bruno Delepelaire and the German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra Saarbrücken under the direction of Reinhard Goebel. Another work which is worth discovering in Beethoven's circle is the third piece on this album - also a world premiere recording: "Divertisment fu?r Fasching Dienstag" by the composer and Vienna Court Kapellmeister Joseph von Eybler (1765-1846).

German Cellist Jan Vogler's new album features two modern cello concertos. The first is the world premiere recording of the cello concerto "Three Continents" by Nico Muhly (*1981), Sven Helbig (*1968) and Zhou Long (*1953). “Three Continents” Cello Concerto is a unique collaborative work celebrating the sheer diversity of three composers from three different continents (USA, Germany, China) and almost three different generations. Each movement of the concerto takes a different view of the role of the soloist: Muhly's Cello Cycles uses the large orchestra to striking effect to create a soundscape full of color. Rather than spotlighting the soloist, this movement features the cello as part of the texture very much as in a Baroque concerto grosso. By contrast, Helbig's Aria opens with a series of atmospheric chords cycling through the lower strings of the cello and highlights the beautiful singing qualities of the instrument. Long's lively final movement, Tipsy Poet, has a more narrative structure based on a well-known Chinese poem and features evocations of Chinese instruments in a colorful soundscape. The result is a fascinating contrasting whole, celebrating musical styles across a vast cultural space. This piece was world-premiered by Jan Vogler with the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra (WDR), conducted by Cristian M?celaru at the Dresden Music Festival 2019. The second cello concerto on the album is the Cello Concerto No. 2 by Dmitri Shostakovich (1906–1975). Jan Vogler recorded the Cello Concerto No. 2 by Shostakovich with the orchestra of Mariinsky Theater St. Petersburg under Valery Gergiev also during the Dresden Music Festival 2019. Their concerts received great critical acclaim. "Jan Vogler sings with his instrument, full of happiness and enthusiasm, it seems, with admirably flawless technique.
