Backed by drummer Eric Harland and bassist Reuben Rogers, and augment by Mark Turner's angular tenor saxophone, Aaron Goldberg's varied and vivid variations of the entire Jazz piano spectrum, his Tatumesque technique, his Evanesque colors, and his Jamal-style arrangements, imbue the CD's 10 tracks with an amazing assortment of foreign and familiar motifs that dance and trance, and sing and swing in a universal musical statement that translates into high art.

When a composer/pianist of Carlos Franzetti's caliber makes a solo piano recording, it can be quite an event for both the listener and the performer. MAMBO TANGO provides an opportunity for this Grammy Award winning composer to not only showcase his talent as a keyboard player but also gives an exposed look at his compositional and arranging style on some classic fare, along with three original songs.

Milanie Dahan transforms, without nostalgia, beautiful French songs into jazz standards. From "Le Petit Bal Perdu" to "La Princesse et les Croque-Notes", her unique voice gives rebirth to these refrains. Indeed, she gives a new soul to some famous or unknown texts from Brassens (from whom she borrows almost word-for-word the title of her album), Dimey, Nougaro, Aznavour and she even dares to cover Ferri!

Brazil's affair with jazz delivered both a singular musical style with bossa nova and one of the greatest songwriters of all time, Antonio Carlos Jobim. Jobim's compositions are among the most well known and most frequently performed in the world. Pianist Fred Hersch has had an affinity for Jobim's music since being introduced to the well-known guitar renditions by Joao Gilberto. On FRED HERSCH PLAYS JOBIM, Hersch (who is quite an influential stylist and composer himself) focuses his attention on these wonderful compositions, performing them on solo piano. Hersch's appreciation for Jobim's unique craftsmanship is obvious as he explores the possibilities presented by the beautiful themes and harmonies wrought into every piece. FRED HERSCH PLAYS JOBIM finds a master musician taking on the compositions of a master songwriter and successfully communicating this well known music in a new way.

The record presents a collection of new songs all written by McCaslin and a band made up of his highly regarded peers, including pianist Edward Simon, guitarist Ben Monder, bassist Scott Colley and drummer Antonio Sanchez.
