The present release is the first portrait album from German composer Robin Hoffmann. Hoffmann graduated from the Dresden University of Music "Carl Maria von Weber" with a diploma degree in composition, arrangement, and piano, studying under Rainer Lischka, Marko Lackner, Lars Juling, Jochen Aldinger, and others. During his time as a student, he was already making waves in the world of film composition, working on projects including the British comedy "Save Angel Hope" starring Billy Boyd, where he had the opportunity to record a feature film score with full orchestra at the age of only 21. Most recently he has written the score for I Krig & Kaerlighed, one of the highest budgeted Danish feature films of all time. The pieces on the present release are presented by a star-studded cast, including Ensemble Ascolta, Michael M. Kasper, Neue Vocalsolistan, Bruce Collings, and the MAM Manufaktur fur aktuelle Musik.

The title of this album translates to "They loved each other." Cornelia Lanz sings Lieder by Robert and Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms that reflect on the love the composers shared with their significant others. German mezzo-soprano Cornelia Lanz has performed solistically at all of the largest opera houses in Europe, and has worked under conductors such as M. Honeck, A. Fischer, and T. Horn. She studied voice at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart and at the Manhattan School of Music in New York. She is currently in the studio of renowned singer Eva Randova. She is joined on this album by pianist Stefan Laux, who studied under Christoph Back, a pupil of Alfred Brendel. He was still a student when he began his extensive concert career as a song accompanist in Germany and abroad. His repertoire spans almost the entire song literature, from Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven through Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Wolf, Schoenberg, Berg, Webern and Eisler, up to the modern day.

The works of Erich J. Wolff, Ludwig Thuille, Anton Urspruch and Siegfried Wagner share marvelous similarities. The playing of the waves as a metaphor for desire and sensuality intertwines the compositions of Wolff and Thuille. Post-romantic dance elements ripple through the works of Wolff, Thuille, Urspruch and Siegfried Wagner. Only recently were the songs of Erich J. Wolff's Opus 3 discovered, further revealing Wolff's affinity with Alexander Zemlinsky, Arnold Schoenberg, and Franz Schreker in musical Vienna at the turn of the twentieth century. The ensemble pianopianissimo-musiktheaters was founded by Peter P. Pachl in 1980. The ensemble has been invited to perform as guests of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Hamburg Opera, the Nuremberg Opera, and many others. They can also be seen and heard on radio, television, and various other publications.
