In this CD, recorded by two outstanding Mexican musicians, Shari Mason (violin) and Manuel Gonzalez (piano), both composers, Brahms and Szymanowski, appear in their roles as guardians of the musical traditions that sustain and nurture their art.

Each one revives tradition in a personal way within their cultural context. Brahms’ Sonata op. 100, woven of elegant counterpoint, intertwines an equal and melodious dialogue between violin and piano, resuscitating the charm and harmony of Viennese music. Szymanowski’s Sonata op. 9, intense and contrasting, shows the dramas and conflicts of the end of the "old days" and the beginning of the modern era.

Mexican composer, pianist, organist, conductor and teacher Arnulfo Miramontes Romo de Vivar received his musical training in Aguascalientes, Guadalajara and Berlin. His talents were recognized with numerous awards, and on the Mexican music scene he was an important and distinguished presence. This recording gathers together a collection of Miramontes' solo piano works, divided into three groupings. The �first consists of eight individual preludes, the second a selection of eight Mexican Miniatures, and the third, a group of six pieces of salon music.

This unique new album from Purpura de Cascabel is a fascinating mashup of traditional Mexican Son and Baroque airs. The group writes: "Asi 3 de un fandango is the result of a long process of investigation that involved a deep contact with the Son Jarocho tradition and the desire to spread it's value mainly in the public space. In 2009, the group Arcadio Hidalgo created the Son Jarocho-Orchestra project "Siquisiri con cuento," with music composed by Jesus Manuel Serna, commissioned by the Orchestra of the National Conservatory of Muic, where it was already trying to show diversity, wealth, and the magico-spiritual character of the sensitivity and thought embodied in the musical tradition. In the same year the Arcadio Hidalgo group won the Traditional Musicians scholarship that the FONCA organizes, for the creation of the music associated with a play based on a story written by them. The play's aim is to show children the fabric of Son Jarocho and it's cultural roots. This encounter also happened with the thought of Son as a great vessel for the message. This allowed us to create a story that speaks of a simple life process in which the "cultural being" finds itself in the presence of others. Tradition is like this- an intangible treasure in which each one of it's heirs is giving part of himself, and building a collective knowledge."

Here we present concertos for flute, guitar and piano by Mexican composer Alexis Aranda. Alexis Aranda is a pianist and outstanding Mexican composer, his works have been performed by more than 30 orchestras from around the world; among them the most important ones in Mexico and others such as the Huntsville Symphony, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Buenos Aires and the National Symphony of Peru. Great directors like Bartholomeus van de Velde, Enrique Diemeck and many others have conducted his pieces. Likewise, they have been performed by soloists, flutists, cellists and pianists. His participation stands out in festivals such as the Cervantino International Festival, the New International Music Forum and the Stratford-upon-Avon International Flute Festival in England.

This album features two guitar arrangements of Mexican traditional music, performed by the Aleph Duo, made up of Gustavo Camacho Gomez and Eric Trejo Santiago. Gustavo Camacho Gomez holds a Bachelor in Classical Guitar from the Superior School of Music of the INBA. He is currently studying for his Master’s Degree at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg, Austria. He teaches at the State School of Music of Tabasco, and is an undergraduate professor at the State Institute of Culture of the State of Tabasco. Eric Trejo Santiago holds a Bachelor in Classical Guitar from the Superior School of Music of the INBA. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree at the Hochschule fur Musik “Hanns Eisler” zBerlin, where he is a beneficiary of the FONCA-CONACYT Scholarship Program for Study Abroad. Along with his classical training, he practices different currents of contemporary music, free jazz, and free improvisation. In 2010, he was part of the free improvisation quintet Synergia Ensemble with which he gave two concerts at the International University Music Festival in Belfort, France.
